Any Camp Long regulars know anything about this person?

For about 6 months now I've encountered a man at Camp Long about once or twice a week usually in the late morning but sometimes earlier. He is probably in his late 20s or early 30s, thin, about 5'11", very short light colored hair and looks very angry. He often is in the upper covered area of the park looking down at the trails. He is usually carrying grocery bags with groceries. I've tried to be polite and say "hi", he just stares at me blankly. A few times he's been in the bushes and come out when I've walked by. Again, he never says a word to me and just stares at me as if he's very angry. I have been avoiding the park lately at the times I normally would see him because there is something in my gut that just does not feel right. He could be completely harmless and just not friendly, or could have something wrong with him preventing him from speaking... I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this man or has had any encounters with him? I hate avoiding the park because of him, and feel kind of mean for having a bad feeling in my gut about him. Thanks.

  2. Is Mr. Cox out and about? I'm not sure what resolution of the last arrest was... here's a link with picture for comparison

  3. This was the resolution:

Also mentioned in our last West Seattle Crime Prevention Council report.

He pleaded guilty and got out. But as precinct city-attorney liaison John Goodwin explained at WSCPC, he has almost a year of "suspended sentence" so that if he violates probation he could be picked up to serve the rest of it.

I don't think that's him, but I guess it could be. I think this guy has grayish eyes and lighter hair, but it might not be his natural hair color.

  5. abstract -- DON'T ever discount that "feeling" -- it's prob. there for a reason!

  6. There is a homeowner in that area who fits the description. He is angry every time I see him but I always assumed it is because he knows I am a Democratic activist.

I don't knock on his door anymore :)

Ken - Maybe that's the same reason he always looks angry towards me. :) Does he live near high point? I've seen this man walking to Camp Long from South of Camp Long, down 34th AVE SW carrying his bags of groceries (which he takes with him), he always has a gallon of milk which seemed odd. I'd be worried it would go bad.

Yeah, that's definitely Ryan Cox. Do be careful, as his behavior seems to be escalating from property vandalism to violence against people.

  10. I also agree that this is Ryan Cox. The milk jug just seals the deal. I wish they could put him away once and for all. Somehow, he is attached to my address because the police and news reporters always end up at our house looking for him. I just hope he doesn't hurt anyone and that he doesn't return to my house thinking he lives here!

Yeah, I just read a few news clips about him & learned that he often carries milk. Wonder what it is about milk. Poor guy.

I feel for his mother, who must worry about him constantly & be heartbroken.

I live very near to that south entrance of Camp Long that goes out onto 34th ave and I would very much appreciate if you just called in to the cops to let them know what happened the next time this guy pops out of the bushes at the park. Maybe it would prompt them to investigate.

LesleyB - That is the entrance he uses. He walks down 34th (I saw him on Juneau/34th) with his bag of groceries and milk to get to the park.
The first time he came out of the bushes I thought he was going to the bathroom, so was kind of embarrassed.
The second time it was just scary.
I obviously don't want to call 911 unless something actually happens, but would the non emergency line be appropriate for something like this? I hope others will report it as well.

  14. In addition to reporting suspicious behavior to the police, I think it's important to give the staff at Camp Long a heads-up about this guy. I forwarded them a link to this forum thread today.

Here's a chance for you guys who said that if you could help out a homeless guy you would. Step up and help out your fellow human being.

  16. thank you jiggers, I am tired of west seattle becoming more and more pretentious and self rightous! It is easy to judge others and resent them for being different, even trying to "run them out of town", this town belongs to EVERYONE who lives here, it is NOT your own personal place to do with as you please. I was born and raised in West Seattle, I have built and renovated many of the houses and buisinesses, organized many food drives fund raisers and other community events, and feel as much a part of this town as anyone else should. It sickens me to have watched my home become a "hippie" riddled, diluted, overdeveloped, joke!

P.S. I live on 34th and I think that its not cox that abstract is speaking of... I do not know him but I always nod and say hi when I see him...no matter how angry he "looks"

  17. Yeah! Those dern Hippies are at it again!

  18. Jiggers and Goat. I know you have the mans best interest in mind, but if it is Ryan Cox, he needs a lot more than a handout of some help. This would be the man that writes the three word homophobic phrase (F@%$ R@%$ Kids) on everything he sees and slashed someone's tires. If he looks angry, is carrying a gallon jug O' Milk or water, has a backpack and a hoodie with the hood over his face while giving you the evil stare and not talking, that is Ryan Cox. Be nice, that's fine, but just avoid him if you want good advice. He used to stay at Solstice park last summer and often still sleeps near the pea patch. Right next to my house... Dude give me the creeps.

  19. DOC, I do not mean to make fun here, but I have been trying to figure out F@%$ R@%$ Kids for 20 minutes now. I think I need to buy a vowel or something. Can you give me more of a hint? I have been curious what the three word homophobic phrase was since I first read the WSB article about them.

Once again. Not trying to make a joke, just curious.

Yikes is right -- great coverage of original incidents and trials, thanks to WSB, who wrote this excellent definition of the graffiti. Do a search on "homophobic graffiti". Sadly, I saw it in person at Schmitz park and it really does shock.

<from WSB>you would know it if you saw it. Three words, with a slur and an obscene/profane/criminal allegation. No further description, please – TR> The letters and number of characters is accurate.
