   In case you haven't heard, I just wanted to bring your attention to an issue that has been getting a lot of attention lately both in the Seattle golfing community and down at City Hall. It concerns Andy Soden, Seattle's former Director of Golf, our current Superintendent of Parks and Rec Tim Gallagher, and Mayor Nickels.

   Are local republicans up in arms about socialized golf?

   Collective resources being used for the common good of all golfers? Municipal ownership of land and capitol intensive services that compete with the free market?

   Just curious.

   I don't play golf myself but I don't mind the city owning and managing recreational resources for the good of all citizens who use them at free or reduced cost.

   I just want to see the same logic applied to health care, utilities, public safety and education.

   Concerning this particular case, it seems you don't have enough information to know what went on.

   Ken,

   I know Andy and know that he's very passionate
   about his job and listened to the little people that do play golf. Shame we don't have more city employee's like him. I do know the courses are the only Parks and Rec projects that make money for the city. Read the links and you'll see its not chump change. You may want to take up golf, I find it much cheaper than seeing my therapist! lol

   Ya, I don't really know what this has to do with Republicans vs. Democrats. I'm about as far from a Republican as you can get (I'm Canadian and have always considered both of your political parties too right wing for my tastes), but this seems like a bad move by the Parks. All I know is this guy ran these courses so well that they made a lot of money for the city, money that could be redistributed throughout the parks system. The new guy may want to spread a larger percentage of the money around, but if there is less revenue coming in then everybody loses. 100% of 0 is 0.

   And Ken, it's important to keep in mind that the city runs others types of sporting facilities that you may or may not participate in: baseball, soccer and yes, bocci!

   Here another reason to keep Andy as director of Seattle Golf, the 3rd Annual Seniors for Juniors Golf Tournament and Fir State Jr. Golf foundation located at 3418 MLK way in Seattle is a project that has been near and dear to his heart.
   Andy has found more ways to make golf a life sport for all and now the new guy from Southern California, Tim Gallagher, who wants the money is showing him the door? Seattle City Council, please take a look at this!
