Exploding Dog!

What exactly is that thing? For some reason, it always reminds me of the giant potato outside the Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot, ID.

I've really had to work to break myself of using "a lot" as one word.
I think it was actually pointed out here on the Forum a couple of months or so ago, so I've been working on it since then.
I'm not sure how I got in the habit of thinking it was one word, only thing I can come up with is I regularly work crossword puzzles, and although two (or occasionally more) word solutions are common, not all authors specify "two words" in the clue, so I just came to think of it as one word.
That being said, if pets were allowed in my building, and I had the means to care for one, I wouldn't mind having alot. They're kinda cute!

But how does one pronounce it? Uh-laht? Ay-laht? (or perhaps it's a French creature, Ah-lo?) In any case, it appears it should take the "an" article, which may lead us to "analot"....

And now Richard Harris is singing: "Analooooooooooht! I know it sounds a bit bizarre...."
I will now go hide under a rock.

Kimberley, how awesome! I was wondering when Allie Brosh would give into the pressure to create an "Alot" shirt. Unfortunately, I probably won't buy it; I tend to avoid graphic t-shirts because I already get told I look young (I've been mistaken for a high school student, and I'm nearly 27). Graphic t-shirts don't seem to help matters. Thanks for the link, though!
EmmyJane, every dog owner I know has loved this post: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/07/dog.html
I'm constantly converting people to the cult of Hyperbole and a Half. Hilarity and proper grammar; what a powerful combination. :-) BTW, every Friday Allie does a guest "fashion" post on TheGloss.com .Posted 1 year ago # -
There are alot of people who can't spell, definately.

SS - thanks for turning me on to hyperboleandahalf! Ever since you posted the link to it in reference to "alot" I've been through the entire archive and now wait impatiently for her next creation.

Oh the dog post cracked me up the other day. So much so that I forwarded it to every dog owner I know.

Yay, squareeyes! When I was first introduced to the blog several months back, I stayed up wayyyy too late reading the whole thing.
I also now (impatiently) wait for each new post. If you're at all into fashion (or parodying it), Allie does a guest post each Friday at TheGloss.com: http://thegloss.com/author/abrosh/ (link directly to all her posts). They're hit and miss, but it's a way to get my Hyperbole and a Half fix more regularly.Posted 1 year ago # -
those websites are hilarious; thanks for the links. I like the summer fashion tips for hipsters from thegloss.com website. I need to get an ice vest for my hoodie ! jk

thegloss is now bookedmarked. I read two posts and made myself stop so that I can continue the joy next week. I will NOT be buying myself any sandal boots over the weekend; no promises on the chaps and sleeveless turtlenecks though.
