King County Animal Control has put out a desperate plea for adoptions since their shelters are overflowing! Adoptions are down by more than 50% because of weather and also because of the economy.

If you can find in your heart & home a place for a new dog or cat, please go down to either of the shelters and adopt now before they have to euthanize perfectly healthy pets!

Thanks - from your local animal lover and pet sitter:)

P.S. - I'll give a 20% discount on pet sitting services for any pet that is adopted between now and Jan. 30th:)

  2. I have two friends who adopted cats this week - here's hoping that some kids got "Santa's bringing you a pet when the weather gets better" notes in their stockings...

  3. PS I'd consider it but we have one shelter dog and one shelter cat, and that's my limit. (Dog was adopted two years ago; cat was adopted 11 years ago.)

People - please also spay and neuter your pets so that this doesnt have to happen. I have been "rescued" by four cats. Last year I adopted my fourth furry friend -- a beautiful ragdoll. These pets are wonderful additions to a home, but many live in misery until they are discovered by their forever home. Thanks Mella6565 for the reminder.

Thanks Alki - and that's the great thing about adopting a shelter pet - the spay/neuter is already done:)

    You have 4 lucky kitties:)

  7. I am not sure i would want to add kitties to the mix at my house with prey sensitive dogs...

at best, i can just imagine the mock battles that would be staged in my living area... they are impressive enough now:)

I add my voice to those asking that we all spay and neuter our pets... unless you specifically plan to breed on a larger scale.

A bitch doesn't need to have puppies to have a full life any more than a woman has to have children to live a full life. They live longer and healthier lives if they don't breed.

And males ... well i know some guys want to strut their stuff alongside their dogs.. but males neutered early are easier to train, are generally less aggressive and make better pets.

Very few of us live on farms these days. Our dogs and cats are family members. They make great companions. They help lower our blood pressure and make us happier people... a pet may be as effective as prozac for mild depression... and their antics will do wonders for the blues. and for those purposes, a mutt of any flavor is as effective as a purebred pet.

All of my dogs since adulthood have been rescues. I didn't get them all from shelters.. but they have all come from homes that couldn't or wouldn't keep them any longer. And they have all grown to be incredible additions to our family... remembered long after they are gone.

After two years, the two we saved before we moved here... my unadoptable Shibas... enrich our lives in ways we never expected.

The life you save when you adopt a pet may well be your own.

  8. Since I got married I feel neutered. Oh no, She is going to kill me! But I have been easier to train the last few years.

Our home is full. I wish I could help. I go into Next to Nature and want to bring home every one of them. We have 4 kitties (3 strays and one brought in as a kitten) and one Basset from the Tacoma Humane Society. Don't tell the city. One is getting old so I feel he shouldn't be counted.

I use our dog as my Avatar. My dad thought she was ugly but I think she is beautiful. When not begging for food or sleeping, I know she is thinking about going wild at any moment. She and the wolves are communicating telepathically.

Oh, one thing new cat owners should know is that cats have furballs and regurgitate them. Don't get mad at your cat for something that is natural.

    Adopt if you can.

HMC - we had a Bassett when I a little girl. Great dog - definitely a low rider:) I'm not surprised yours is "running" with the wolves in his head - he is a hound after all!

Bump to the rest of the folks here in WS - c'mon, you know you have room for a cat or a dog..... go down to the shelter and have a look:) You won't regret it!

  10. I wish we could, and I know if my husband had his way we would add another kitty or dog. However, we already have 3 cats and a dog (all rescues) so another one just isn't possible. Besides, I think our oldest (13yrs old) cat would revolt. I do agree with everyone else, spaying and neutering can be one of the best things you can do for your pets.

    I hope they find homes!
