I and other people I know have contacted WS Blog to post information to your front page of your website and it still has not been posted. We are just anxious to share the news.

I know I sent a message that yesterday my bus was two minutes late, and today I stayed home sick. Why haven't those news items posted to the front page, WSB??

    Posted 1 year ago #
  5. I think it might be up to the discretion of the editor whether it actually gets on the front page or not, not that you've requested it.

  6. Sarah: Is it true that you were captured as an infant and raised by a tribe of Jivaro Indians, who schooled you in the fiendish art of the blow gun and the poisoned barb?

Shoot, how'd you find that out, DP? I didn't send that to WSB.
I prefer to keep my private life private! I'm sure you wouldn't like me to blab about your side job as an Etsy seller. You must make a killing selling this stuff!

We are requesting WSB to post about my daughters school winning the Semi-Finals today in the Global Reading Challenge. And yes it does deserve front page coverage as did the other schools.

  11. You know, once in a while I take a nap. Just once in a while. Happened tonight. Sorry. Got about six non-breaking stories in queue including that one.

(added) I should also note for anyone concerned by that confession, that the site is watched for breaking news on those occasions and any such would not have gone unreported. In addition, we have some much-needed editing help signing on beginning later this week for regular assistance with some of the non-news sections of the site. - TR

  15. Which name? This information came from Christopher Robert, the head teacher. Including the photo ID information after the direct quote. It is a cut-and-paste. I apologize if something is incorrect but it came directly from the school.

Also the whole team that was pictured was not mentioned, the student coaches should also be given credit they are: Miarra, Mulualem and Crystal. Thanks for making the correction! They are all in 5th grade.

Hope your nap was good TR.

And Luckymom30? This is just my personal opinion, but I am guessing you have no clue as to how many people just like you give such grief and, from my point of view, egregious ingratitude to WSB's publishers.

What do you pay to demand thusly?
What do you pay for this remarkable, nationally recognized and respected news service.?

Think about that for a good long minute.

  19. WSD, thanks, we do need to be able to deliver on our promise. And while we don't ask any financial compensation from "readers," they do honor us with their trust, their "here's a cool pic from the Reading Challenge" (or a bird, or a seascape, etc.) contributions, their recommendations to friends/family/colleagues/whomever ...

But in terms of reasonable expectations, and trust me, this also goes for the hundreds-of-employees Seattle Times, there are occasions (with no naps involved) in which publication does take a few hours. For various reasons. So we appreciate everyone's understanding.

We also incidentally are continuing to slay technical dragons - a new one has popped up tonight and even once I was back at my battle station, that took some troubleshooting. (It's not affecting reading as far as I can tell but if you look at the lower part of your browser and are seeing a "transferring data" that isn't resolving, we're trying to figure that one out. Never a dull moment.)

You did not sound ever so appreciative Luckymom30. You sound like you are entitled more than the other 60,000-100,000 people this news service covers.

You chose to bring this matter out into the public forum rather than sending an email. Therefore, I'm going to tell you exactly what I and others are thinking about your public kvetching. It sucks.

And that's all I'm going to say lest I further dignify your whining.

[Edit: except to note that luckymom30 deleted her response. telling.]

This never should have been posted on the Forum and you know it.

You owe WSB an apology via email as well as here for your bad form and less than classy decision to post here.

    IMHO.

    I've made my point.

Oh my god, your poor daughter. Please stop! Now you're publicly throwing staff under the bus? As noted, 100K people read this and you're entirely missing the point.

Hey, Luckymom30, thank you for recognizing the hard-working students at Roxhill. For the last two weeks they have not been permitted outside because they need to study. The wonderful 5th grade teacher Mrs.Stoehr and the Golden Apple award winner Pat Bliquez, Librarian, wanted the students to do VERY well in the Global Reading Challenge.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  31. Holy moly! I'm sure these kids are great, and I congratulate them for their achievements, but "not permitted outside"?!? A little fresh air is good for the brain.

All students participanting in the Global Reading Challenge had to study very hard and that meant to give up on recess, combine their lunchtime with study time.

The blog is a community resource but not a bulletin board. I love WSB and their commitment to covering every little thing that happens in our neighborhood, but 1) they edit and curate what makes news and 2) they are humans who have limited resources. I can't imagine why anyone would demand a news site put their story on the front page -- although some sure try and I'm sure some community news sites would comply. To publicly complain about when and where (or if) a minor story is covered on WSB is pretty rude, to be honest.

Although my profile makes it look like I am a new reader I have been reading and commenting on the blog for several years now. In that entire time I have never come across a posting that exhudes such an air of entitlement. I almost responded to this thread last night but decided to chill for a few hours before I came across as being critical of Luckymom. Perhaps LM should have followed that same process. I just can't fathom the personality type that would be so demanding (with such little appreciation in return). Hey LuckyMom, bring me a sandwich. . . . . .

Roxhill Elementary School deserves the same coverage anyother school, and FYI people I was responding to WSB's link that stated if you have nes of others schools who are attending the City Finals please contact us. I tried, without an reply, as did Chris Robert and that was because TR took a nap when she states her website is a 24/7/365 site.

These kids are awesome, did an amazing job as did the other kids advancing to the City Finals.

I never stated once that WSB does not do an amazing job, people.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  38. Just as a point of interest, luckymom30, how long did you wait for a reply from WSB before posting to the forum? Cause to be honest, it reads as though your complaint is that WSB didn't respond instantly to your request. That strikes me as a touch unrealistic and I think it's what a lot of people are reacting to.

Not to mention this isnt breaking news. Your comment about not getting a response when its a 24/7/365 site is a bit snarky. The site is up and functioning 24/7/365 - doesnt meant the editors are!

I guess luckymom30 stays awake 24/7/365 being a mom and never takes a nap. Lighten up.

After this comment: "because TR took a nap when she states her website is a 24/7/365 site," I'm not inclined to take seriously anything else luckymom30 says. If the original post wasn't rude and entitled (I think it was), that comment sure was. That left me speechless.
LM30, you'd probably agree that you're a parent 24/7/365; does that mean you never sleep?
Besides, that's not even the point - WSB does collect and report news 24/7/365. Just because someone wasn't manning the email contributions at that moment certainly does not mean someone else wasn't out digging through police reports, or following up with DPD on a project, or photographing an accident scene, etc.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  41. Holy Moly!
    This is unbelievable.
And, WSB, you most definitely do NOT owe an apology to anyone because you took a nap, or took a break, or...etc. and did not respond IMMEDIATELY to someone's demand.

Then how can it be a 24/7/365 site when nothing is being posted?

I'm starting to think this isn't a real person.

WSB is up 24/7/365, both with updates to real breaking news stories and with a bulletin board that anyone can post on if another story develops. Kids doing something positive at an elementary school is not a real breaking news story that should interrupt needed rest for TR and company.

People, people, people! Calm down! Everything worked out it was posted, name was corected, other team membres names were added. RELAX PEOPLE! We did however notice that in new postings were added to the site frontpage since 5:11 and with that it mind people we contacted WSB to see what was going on as it is always posting news items of different type. And no it was not to just get the achievement of Roxhill online but to see what was going on at WSB. It seemed out of place with what we have been reading and seeing.

Contacting WSB in the past to submit news and the school had received a quickier response made us all wonder what was going on at WSB.

Glad you enjoyed your nap TR.

  45. Luckymom..you need to stop. Are you reading what people are saying. Do you seriously think that these people never sleep? That it's not OK to have to wait a few hours before they are able to post things? They are a 24/7/365 site. That doesn't mean they post everything as soon as you want it. That really does sound like you have a sense of entitlement, and that you really don't appreciate what these people do. I wasn't going to say anything, but...after reading your latest, wow, are you for real? I, too, would be interested in how long you waited until you posted your "rant" in the forum. If it was less than a day, your "rant" definitely isn't warranted. You're not gonna win this one, I'm afraid. Time to change the way you think.
