JoBParticipantEspecially in this town.. dominated by Boeing.
So why aren’t these women getting more community support? If nothing else, we should be supporting them as role models to the girls in our community.
They are half way to their funding goal thanks to a generous contribution by one of our own WSB photographers… but they are still far short of covering their expenses and they are running out of time.

DuskyvioletParticipantI just donated and feel great about it! Let’s help these women fulfill their dreams. WooHoo!

CMParticipantAgain, Thanks!!!! JoAnne for starting another better named thread. Anything helps, people!
I’ve donated myself like CB, and am trying to get my “local large aerospace employer” focals for SWE (Society of Women in Engineering) and community relations to take notice.
Let’s Do This!!!!!

JoBParticipantCM.. thanks for reminding me about the women in engineering groups. I shared this where my daughter can see it.. i think she has reached the role model stage :) and where some of the Boeing Engineers will see it.

JoBParticipantToday i found myself asking why Boeing isn’t sponsoring this team? I don’t know why, but it brought up the point for me that we all expect someone else to be doing this…
I got curious.. i googled this team and this event and what i found is that the only news source covering this story was the West Seattle Blog.
I am not the least bit surprised that the West Seattle Blog stepped up… or that forum members have donated to this cause… but i am surprised that this story hasn’t been picked up elsewhere.
these women deserve to have their crowdfunding promoted.

charlabobParticipantMaybe we can all point out to WSB’s media partners– it’s not too late.

I hope to hear something back from Boeing community relations early next week. I’ll let you all know what I hear. I also suggested to the team that they might want to more actively promote their cause, but have not heard back.

JoBParticipantCM.. let us know if there is something else you think we can do to help.

charlabobParticipantIf you know STEM teachers, powerful women in tech, anyone personally, hit ’em up for a few bucks. My personal target audience is wildly successful professional women who may not realize these women are their peers.
I really don’t understand why this hasn’t caught fire. Someone needs to talk directly to the women involved (or their teachers) and teach them marketing 101.
Super Bowl Sunday is a good time to do it.
If you’re going to hang out in a bar to watch the game, take a donation can and talk the bar tender into putting it up.
Hit your favorite Seahawk — it’s so damned little money (relatively).

JanSParticipantit IS so damned little money, and more people need to know about it. I emailed King5 last night, and told them they need to broadcast it, that more people, esp. Boeing, need to know about it. And one woman on the team formerly worked for Microsoft…where is their money?
February 4, 2014 at 4:59 pm #803811
JoBParticipantThis is why supporting this team matters…
February 4, 2014 at 10:03 pm #803812
WSBKeymasterGood news!! Just saw an update that they have reached their goal: “BIG NEWS: between private donations and the school, we have made our fundraising goal! You all have been a big support and we thank you. This is the real deal! This all women’s team is going to compete!”
We hope to check back in with them at their Thursday training session … TR
