I just want to take a minute during the holiday season to thank the tireless team behind the West Seattle Blog. Over the past few years, I have become an avid reader and find the stories, timeliness and objectivity refreshing. WSB is the most well written, best managed and professional blog I have read. Wishing you all a happy holiday season and a big Thank You!!

I'll go along. I have my differences with Tracy and Patrick, but they run an exceptional blog.
Differences? Don't get me started about the Blethen clan.

Our partnership with the Times consists of pretty much nothing more than, they link our stuff and sometimes we link theirs. That's not a firehose of traffic but if it means that a local story gets another few hundred readers, we're up for that. It also means we have occasional access to photos we just couldn't get. There is no money, no advertising, no ownership, no contract, no signed agreement nor behind-the-scenes access in either direction involved. Just so everybody's clear on that. WSB is 100 percent owned by my husband and me, and our revenue is 100 percent from the advertising you see on the site, which is 100 percent LOCAL. And the Times doesn't republish our stuff, unlike companies from AOL (Huffington Post etc.) to Hearst to Fisher who want "partners'" stuff published on THEIR sites so that in essence they're getting people's hard work for free, to benefit THEM and THEIR advertising dollars. The Times links out to us directly (which of course anyone is free to do since we're on the internet and you don't need permission or a partnership to link to someone).
But I digress. Thanks for the kind words. Yesterday was the site's official sixth anniversary (the first post on the site, which was a ramble about Santa Claus!) - we started in 2005 as something completely different from what this turned into ... TR

I agree, thanks for all your hard work. I look in almost daily to see what's going on and when something immediate is happening in the neighborhood the first place I check is WSB. It seems like an awfully good model for a neighborhood news blog, tho something like this doesn't happen without dedicated people putting in the time. Best of luck in 2012.
