That\'s a funny place to close, because it actually was an independent coffee shop until about 6 months to a year ago it turned into a Starbucks overnight.

Maybe its not a great place for a coffee shop? It\'s a bitch to park, and the Safeway in the same parking lot has a Starbucks inside.

  3. Buh-bye!

    No loss there.

If you\'ve never tried a shot of espresso at C & P coffee, you\'ve got no idea of what you\'re missing. If you were a regular at the Jefferson Square SBUX, now is your chance to try the good s#@t at C & P.

  4. It doesn\'t seem to be a very good location. However, when I drove by yesterday it was really busy inside. The independent shop that was there before wasn\'t very good. I\'m not a Starbucks fan, but it is better than the last place.

  6. What happens to the SBUX employees in the closing stores?

  7. The company will try to find a position in a nearby store for them (many stores had openings that were put on hold pending the announcements so that partners could transfer into them). Those who are not transferred, or who cannot find/don\'t want another position get severance, job search assistance, and extended healthcare benefits (not COBRA, but actual extended benefits) for quite some time.

Less coffee cup lids thrown in landfills! Yeah! I say good riddance!

  10. Aim, thanks so much for the response.

  11. I have yet to find a truly awesome pulled shot in West Seattle. The best is on Broadway at Vivace. SBUX has created it\'s destiny so to speak. You can only charge full steam ahead for a bit and then your bound to hit the wall. This is what has happened, they hit the wall. That SBUX in Jefferson Square was an odd choice. I only go into that shopping center during early AM or late night hours. The parking lot is chaos during peak times.

  12. I had the worst Starbucks latte ever in that location. I kindly asked them to redo it and the 2nd one was perhaps worse. Not sorry to see it close...

  15. I\'m disappointed that this Starbucks is closing. I thought the baristas there were great and really friendly, but the Jefferson Square parking lot left much to be desired. For those of you that rave about independent coffee shops, I\'ve had some horrible drinks at them and they charge just as much as Starbucks does so I\'m not convinced.

  16. I worked for Starbuks for 7 years both as an Assistant Manager and at corporate and I would say that since the new automated machines the taste and service has seemed to go down. As far as independant coffee places I have always loved Java Bean and recently Angelina\'s red cup drive thru. I thought their lattes were done very well.

For anyone unconvinced about independently owned coffee shops, you need to try Sleepless on Harbor.

You can\'t find nicer baristas (I think after my second visit, they started remembering my order) and the coffee is consistently delicious! They also sell their coffee by the pound at Thrifway (Full Tilt is a favorite).

People can bag on Starbucks all they want but Starbucks is the reason so many carts and independents have sprung up over the last 20 years. There definately is a demand for coffee that has provided people business opportunities that were not there 20 years ago. Is it perfect? No. I agree that they sometimes can run some people out of business but that is the market economy we live in. Capitalism and competition. It can be a B!^(# but it\'s the best system to live in, in the world.

  21. Yeah, Ladro\'s is great stuff. And once in a great while they even have pastries with chocolate in them past 7pm. :-/

    (But seriously - great coffee.)
