1st Avenue Question

  1. I need to head down to 1st Avenue today, but when I exit at 1st I need to turn right which is not permitted. How do I do this? It's so confusing down there, I don't want to get turned around. The address I am heading to is right after that turn. Any advice would be appreciated.

  2. Since nobody else has answered yet ... it's early ... I'll try!

I haven't been through the construction zone on 1st north of the bridge in more than a week and I don't know how soon you would get the opportunity to turn around after heading north (left) for a while. So I would approach from the south instead. Go get to the 1st Avenue South bridge by going through south West Seattle etc., and head north via 509. I am sure I will steer you wrong if I try to talk out the way to do that but via Google Maps, you can plot the northbound path by, for example, getting directions from 16th/Roxbury to 1st/Spokane.

Or, you can just take the left turn off the bridge ramp and gamble on how long it'll take before you can turn around. If you are in northernmost West Seattle that might be most efficient.

  3. I live in Northern West Seattle. If I have to go, for example to Cross Cut Hardwoods or Eco Haus I take the left, then pull right into the parking lot on the left and turn around. The problem now is getting home!

  5. k -- we went to Costco yesterday and there was a traffic cop right there directing traffic and every car that put their blinker on to turn right he waved on through to the right!

Also, looks like they replaced the cement barrier that separates the 2 lanes coming off the WS bridge and the closed 2 lanes coming from the lower so the no right turn sign disappeared!

  6. If your car has good shocks... and you're feeling adventurous.

Lower bridge, right on marginal, merge on 99(follow the trucks through the severely damaged pavement) go up 4 or more lights (Hudson is the first) and take a left. Two blocks east will put you at 1st ave.

If you didn't want to drive over the severely damaged pavement; could you not take (in the opposite direction) the path that metro uses when bussing to West Seattle and use Hanford to get to first and then turn right? Seems more efficient for our friends in the north end of West Seattle.
