KatieHParticipantI’d like to find a group of small biz people who’d like to meet monthly (or so) to talk about our business goals and issues. I envision a small group where we can be accountable to ourselves and each other, discuss our plans, commitments, progress and dilemmas in a supportive, confidential forum. Perhaps each month we could focus on one of our businesses in case-study fashion.
Anyone interested?

SueParticipantHi Katie, I’d be interested in something like this. However, most small biz/entrepreneur people usually hold groups like this during the work day as there’s an assumption that schedules are flexible. Right now I work a day job (that has no flexibility) and run my own business evenings/weekends. So if there is interest in a group like this that meets during an evening/weekend, I’d be interested in attending.

DBurnsParticipantI’m interested! I like the idea of sharing experience and feedback. Let me know what you come up with!

KatieHParticipantGlad you’re interested! I’d propose we meet at Uptown Espresso (my fave). What days and times might work for a meeting to trade thoughts?

DBurnsParticipantAs far as evenings go I can be pretty available M-Th, weekends are a bit harder for me but let me know what you’re thinking. Mornings and daytime is always an option for me but I know that is unique for most.
Let me know!

SueParticipantIf I don’t have a client, I’m available after 5:30 Monday and Wednesday-Friday, and after 7:15 on Tuesday. I’m also free many weekends – Saturday morning or Sunday after 2.

DBPMemberNINETY PERCENT of businesses in America are family-owned or controlled.
They range from behemoths like Walmart, Ford, Mars and Marriott to small businesses with less than 500 employees, which make up the vast majority.
[…]
Research shows that family businesses generate more than 60 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. They employ 62 percent of the U.S. workforce. Half of our total wages paid come from family businesses, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
[…]
It’s estimated that 70 percent of family businesses die off after the first generation. Lack of a succession plan is a big reason. Some also cite estate taxes, also known as “death taxes,” that fall on those who inherit businesses valued at a certain amount.

KatieHParticipantThe next 2 weekends are tough for me because I’ll be launching Crossroads Trade in Seattle. Come by the UU Church on California from 10 – 4 this Saturday (December 1st) to say hello and check out our fair trade ethnic arts! I’ll post about meeting when I surface.

SueParticipantHi Katie – I’ll try to make it over on Saturday to say hi. I’m actually a member at the WSUU church and was planning on going by anyway.

SueParticipantChris, I had the opportunity to introduce myself to Katie at one of her trade shows, and we pretty much said that nothing was going to happen until after the first of the year due to show schedules and the holidays. So I don’t believe any official gathering occurred of this, and I’m definitely still interested.

jissyParticipantI, too would be interested.

KatieHParticipantI could meet most weekday mornings from 10-12. I could do the 18th, 22 or 23rd. Preferences?

SueParticipantUnfortunately, I cannot do daytime meetings as I work full time (without flexibility) while building my own practice evenings/weekends. Obviously, if that works best for most people, I totally understand. :) If there’s anyone who is free evenings (after 5) or weekends and would love to meet sometime.
