A great friend of mine is a fourth degree Tang Soo Do black belt. He helped pique my interest in the martial arts.

The martial arts are for all ages. I am proud of my Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and look forward to my next level.

Find the art that is best for you. These testimonials are great.

West Seattle has a variety of studios to try... Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Aikido, and Tang Soo Do. I have probably missed a few others too, so I apologize.

I had no interest until my 30's but one day I decided to go and have never regretted it. When my son turns five, he will be learning the martial arts.

On California Ave near Admiral, website:
http://www.evergreen-tsd.com/

Tang Soo Do is a Korean form of martial arts/karate.

My 5yo son has thrived there. The instructor and owner, Master Elmore, is excellent. He is the real deal, 4th degree black belt and personally committed to his practice. My child's confidence really has blossomed, and it's obvious that all the kids really enjoy the classes. There is lots of laughter. There is also an ethics component, emphasizing making goals, having discipline, listening to others, obeying parents, acting honorably, etc... The skills learned can be used for a lifetime.

Master Elmore also has a "straight A" club for the grade schoolers that rewards participants with a pizza party. There is a reading program for kids in the summer. It's just amazing, and the place feels like a small community. We would recommend Evergreen for all kids, girls and boys, above soccer, ballet, or gymnastics.

Evergreen offers separate classes for kids and adults. Kids can begin as young as age 4, though my kiddo wasn't emotionally ready for it until almost 5. The cost is $100/month, which includes two 45-minute classes each week & a uniform. One free trial month (8 classes!). Check it out!
