wsmama3ParticipantLooking for a Pre-K program in West Seattle for a kid-o that needs another year of preschool before moving on to K.
Thanks!

IrukandjiParticipantAbout how many hours per week? Part time or full time?

wsmama3ParticipantI don’t have any restrictions. Need a space where a 5 year-old (turing 6 in April 2014) could have another year in a program before K. Both academics and social skills.

jissyParticipantmama — Try SWEL (Southwest Early Learning) preschool, it’s for ages 3-5 and they have 4 classrooms on Delridge (and an a.m. and p.m. class in each), Monday – Thursday. My 2 girls are there this year and we’ve liked the program, it’s English-Spanish and the teachers are great. 206-913-2980, Karina is the Administrator.

IrukandjiParticipantI really appreciated the experience we had at Cedar House Preschool. We did three four-hour days, small group, with a good balance of life skills/thematic intro to ‘academics’, balanced with great playtime outside and walks to the local park and trails. Contact Katie at ktrosemc@yahoo.com or call her at 932-1712.

rnmettyParticipantThe Cove School has a Junior Kindergarten program to address those needs and focuses primarily on mindfulness and social and emotional learning. Children typically have summer birthdays or miss the August 31st cut off. We have a 5 day morning program from 8:30-12:30 which also includes a Forest K-day. One day per week we spend the 4 hours in the woods. More information on http://www.thecoveschool.com
Feel free to contact us for more information.

bellvyParticipantTry the Co-op Preschools. Not easy to get into but incredible for preparing kids for Kindergarten. K teachers love kids from Co-op because of their social and academic readiness. I think the info email is jkatalki@aol.com (I have found that labels like Jr Kindergarten and Pre-K are just fancy names for programs–trying to catch your eye)

karenParticipantRight now several Cooperative preschool classes have a couple of open slots. If you are interested, you are always welcome to call and make an appointment to see our classes!

wsmama3ParticipantThanks for the feedback – we are at Admiral 4’s co-op and have loved co-op for years. I agree – great prep. This little dude just might need another year! :)

brooklynMemberMy son is currently enrolled at the Cove School in their Jr. K program and we are so so so happy we gave him this extra year. His Jr. K class meets Monday – Friday in the mornings, his teacher is amazing and so attentive to each child’s unique needs and skills.
It was also great to be in a class where all of the kids were taking an extra year before Kindergarten.
Hope this info helps. Good Luck!

alkimom71ParticipantMy son has thrived in Bloom Preschool across from Metropolitan Market. Both teachers are very warm, and the preK program is a great prep for “real” kindergarten. They are very good at fostering positive communication and interactions between the children. I believe there are a few kids there who will be close to 6 going into kindergarten in the fall.

CSWSParticipantThe more and more we send 6 year olds to Kindergarten the less and less schools are ready to work with 5 year olds. In more than 20 years of experience in Early Learning I have had maybe 5 students who really ‘needed’ the extra year mostly due to developmental or social delays but never one with an April birthday. I would question the notion that your child is not ready. Did they give you some examples of why exactly? Kindergarten is 9 months away, HUGE growth is experienced during this time, usually in 6 month chunks, so you may not be seeing it now but by June your child will be a different child. And THEN it should be decided if he is ‘ready’ or not. Not a judgment or criticism, you know your child best, just wanted to be a different voice for another point of view.
