gatekrasherMemberWas just walking home, barton is cordoned off between 16th and 17th, with an ambulance, several police and a fire truck.
There were just some cars parked off to the side and next to the fire truck what looked like some paper towels and other miscellaneous things strewn across the sidewalk, an anxious looking guy standing by a car.
I asked a police officer what happened and he said, simply, “car accident” however there was no visible damage to any of the cars around and the scene was still fresh. They were working on someone inside the ambulance.
By the car there appears to be a white t-shirt or other garment, a roll of paper towels including some crumpled up and used, and a child’s bicycle.
I can only guess that what I saw may have been someone getting hit but I’m not sure. If anyone has any more info let us know

mike0323Participantits 6:30 and the street is still blockaded. I assume that means the worst. If the kid was crossing 16th that intersection is so dangerous in a car, there was a crash there this summer.

WSBKeymasterMy bad for not checking here every 2 minutes but if breaking news happens in your ‘hood I also invite you to call/text/e-mail us – we go out to breaking news; I saw a medic call at this location but a medic call doesn’t necessarily mean “crash,” so we don’t automatically roll on those unless we get a tip, and the medic call closed shortly after I saw it. meantime, thanks very much for posting. we will see if we can find out more … I’m going to head out to the scene on the offhand chance officers are still there; weekend afterhours contacts are not always easy to come by.

WSBKeymasterUpdate – I called SPD media office before heading out to get a visual on the intersection status. Officer Jeff Kappel confirms it was a vehicle vs. pedestrian and one person went to Harborview Medical Center (which usually means serious injuries), but the info he has doesn’t say whether that was the pedestrian (you’d guess – but always dangerous to assume) or someone from the car.

mike0323ParticipantI thought about emailing you Tracy but i guess once I knew it wasn’t an armed person running around my neighborhood I didn’t need any more info.

WSBKeymasterRoad closure info helps other folks too – that’s the main newsworthiness of crashes, so if you get the chance to share that, it’s worth the time if you have it. But thanks for adding the note here that the road was still closed after two hours (the initial callout was around 4:30). This reminds me of an overdue followup I need to check on, re: a couple of other pedestrian accidents in WS from earlier in the year.

WSBKeymasterPolice now say this was vehicle vs. 5-year-old boy:

I’m about to post an update on the main page, now that the Southcenter shooting situation is settling, a little.
