Joe bailed us out of a few problems the day before Thanksgiving, with little notice. The prices were completely reasonable. I'd call him again without hesitation.

I just wanted to say thanks to the people who have posted their preferences on plumbers. I used this thread and a few others to pick a company to replace our water heater. I chose Brennan Heating and Air Conditioning and I am very happy. We went Tankless and are very happy with the product and how the work was completed.

I stumbled onto this post tonight while surfing around and I have to put my two cents in. Another vote for Stalwart Plumbing. I found Paul Lewan from Stalwart Plumbing when he was working for another company over ten years ago. He comes out every October and cleans out the roots in my sewer drain. The problem is deep and down a hillside so it is expensive to get at, we decided that for the $10K that it would cost to dig up and replace the sewer line, it would be cheaper to just chop the roots out of the sewer every three years, which he does. We have also used him for some repairs that are beyond my scope. I am reasonably handy but at my age you reach a decision to not get involved in home improvement projects that might go haywire. Paul is a craftsman from a time long past, and I have a deep respect for his type, and for all trade people who treat their work as a career, not some temporary stepping stone to some other job. Sounds like Joe the Plumber shares this passion as well, but I haven't used him. Long live the independent small shop craftspeople and thank you WSB for your forum of advocacy.

I found Paul of Stalwart based on WSB recommendations. He came yesterday afternoon (cold day, threatening snow!) Professional, confident, courteous, nice guy! We've had good and bad experiences with plumbers - first the good: O'Neill Plumbing. They were able to tweek an ancient 5-gallon toilet so it worked more 'efficiently', didn't leak, etc. Fast, competent, fair.

I've learned throughout the process of a long remodel that the guys at Southwest Plumbing work on commission, so the incentive is to bill you heaps. Fox Plumbing goes by the lesser-known practice of having a licensed plumber oversee the work, but not DO the work. Larger operations typically send out non-licensed workers under the general supervision of a licensed plumber, workers not necessarily REALLY knowing what they are doing who have to run to the supervisor for help when you say things like, "Yes, I DO want it done to CODE."

I heart Joe the plumber! It's almost midnight, husband is out of town, now water in the house. I called Joe thinking I'd get an answering machine. What do you know? He answers the phone and talks me through how to fix the problem myself. They just don't make 'em like this. He will be my plumber of choice from here forward.

I've used a couple plumbers in Seattle. It kind of sucks because you usually don't really know how much the job is going to cost. A lot of the time its an astronomical amount.

If I had my pick I'd go with Beacon Plumbing. At least they'll quote you a flat charge before going to work. Plus they don't charge for same day service or emergency service. It all works out in the end.

Joe the Plumber called me back within 20 minutes when I called him this morning at 6am for an emergency issue, which rocks. The City of Seattle was also quick to respond and the technician was happy to show me maps of sewer lines, etc to help me better understand what may be going on. Sadly, Joe had a booked day so he referred me to Raymark, who hasn't called back yet, 2 hours after I left a message on their so-called emergency line.

However, Best Plumbing (on Stone Way) is FABULOUS! No word on cost yet, but the owner picked up the phone before office hours, gave me some "in the meantime" advice, and sent a guy out right away. They just called to let me know he's en route and will be here shortly.

I agree with others. Southwest plumbing is a rip-off!!!

1st experience: I had a leaky main shut-off valve. They wanted $400 to replace the valve. I told them to hit the road. I looked at it and described the problem to the guys at True Value. All it needed was a new washer for 39 CENTS!

2nd experience: I had a rusted/leaking kitchen drain pipe. They gave me an estimate at $1200. I told them to hit the road, again! Went to home depot for parts and rented a skill saw. Problem fixed for less than $100.

I just want to give a nod to Joe the Plumber as well. He was very professional and personable. He did a terrific job installing a toilet and garbage disposal for me. I even ran into some parts issues and had to run back to HD and he knocked some time off his billing, which I thought was nice.

We had horrible hot water pressure in our shower, despite being great everywhere else in the house. His rates were competitive (or better) with other plumbers I've talked to. I called him on a Saturday to schedule a mid-week appointment, and even though he doesn't work on weekends, he told me over the phone how to backflush the hot side of my shower faucet. It worked within 5 minutes, and my wife and I enjoyed the best showers we've had since we moved in.

Just wanted to say that based on recommendations in this thread, I hired O'Neill Plumbing for some extensive plumbing work at my house. They were competitively priced compared to two other bids. They were very professional, quick, clean, and easy to work with. 5 out of 5 stars for O'Niell.

Tim Sweeney was remarkable.he had to come back 3 times due to a faulty faucet (American Standard from Home Depot) and his charge was very reasonable, less than Beacons charge for a diagnosis and 15 minutes of work to replace one small water line valve. The installation was VERY difficult due to a cast stone sink and almost inaccessible fittings. I would award 5 stars to Tim Sweeney.

Yesterday we urgently needed a plumber, and called Paul at Stalwart Plumbing as a result of recommendations here. I'm so glad that I did, and I'll echo all of the other sentiments: he knows his stuff, he's more reasonably priced than others, and he seemed like an all-round-good-guy (which, frankly, is important to me when I invite a stranger into my house). Next time we need someone for a plumbing issue, I will definitely be calling him again.

Not only was he honest and up front -explaining over the telephone that our project was probably a little too big for him (it ended up being a sewage matter, and he didn\'t have the necessary tools), he referred us to Raymark Plumbing and Sewer who EXCEEDED our expectations.

About a month ago we had a a clogged tub drain, so I checked this blog for plumber recommendations. We called Paul at Stalwart Plumbing as a result to come look at the problem. I was very please with their work and we just had his company (Debbie this time) come out to replace our old (1975) water heater. It was another job well done, and I wanted to make sure I added my recommendation to the others.

Joe the plumber was great for us too. Whatever you do, don\'t use Southwest Plumbing. Total ripoff, scare tactics, overpriced,etc. Got quoted byt Southwest $17,000 (yep thousand!) for something that ultimately cost us about $1,200.

We used Joe The Plumber based on the reviews here and we were very happy with the results and would recommend Joe. He is an excellent communicator, fast, responsive and most importantly knows his stuff. We have had some past experiences with O\'Neill Plumbing and another plumber based up north and were disappointed by pricing, communication by staffers regarding scheduling, and timeliness of the job.

We hired Joe The Plumber (206-285-2434) based on advice in an earlier posting (Thanks, JT!). What a great find! Joe fixed a shower valve that I had taken apart and couldn\'t replace (doh!). He was very nice, researched it online during the evening at no charge, and fixed the problem. He charged us only half the time he was on site because he couldn\'t fix it right away. Now that\'s integrity! Joe is very fair, communicates well (not something you always find in your plumbers), pleasant and affordable. Highly recommended!

While I\'m at it, I also want to give a shout out to O\'Neill Plumbing. I had them replace my main water line while my yard was dug up for a landscaping project. Cevin Farnsworth gave me a good price and excellent service, and their installation crew was friendly and did a great job. Local business to boot. Recommended.
