Mellaw, I'm not impressed with their breakfast either. But I do like their burgers and, as JoB mentions, the atmosphere/servers.

it isn't just the food.. though it is consistently good food... no matter what i order.

it's the staff.. and the kitsch.. and everyone having a good time.

we chose it this year for our new year's eve dinner because we almost never fail to have a good time there and a good time is what we were after.

hubby plays songs for me on the jukebox.. and i am not the only one who appreciates it.

on new year's eve there was a man sitting by himself at the end of the counter.. and for a brief moment i saw him visibly grooving to the music.. he left with a smile.

i watched a woman alone with her book one day suddenly break into song with one of our selections and then retreat to her book afterward with a big smile.

i see tattooed, pierced young people grooving to peggy lee:)))) and kids who can't wait to play the shoop shoop song.

the people watching there is supurb... as is the care the staff gives everyone.. including children.

one day our favorite waitress told us she had been serving the child in the booth over that had just left since she was in her mom's tummy... and it made her smile.

there are a lot of reasons to frequent a restaurant... consistently having a good time is reason enough for us....

and bumping into friends is another... we can frequently be found in the luna Park cafe weeknights.. especially on rainy windy nights about 7ish. we'd be glad to share our music with you ;~)

I've been to Luna Park 3x for breakfast on a weekend and their food is not great. I don't understand why everyone raves about it. There are better places to eat.

We were here a long time before we ever went to Luna Park; don't really know why we never went. When Charlestown was closed after the fire, we needed a new place to go, and Luna Park is where we ended up. Now we're regulars there and never go to Charlestown. Even ran into JoB there one day, so that was fun. I'm not normally into the screaming kid scene, but it's kinda fun to watch 5 of them climbing on the moving batmobile. :) About the only thing I don't like about it is their parking lot, so I make my husband drive so I don't have to deal with it.

just a warning :) the Luna Park Cafe is addictive.. especially to those with children... so much to see and so many child friendly waitresses...

it's a place where kids can be kids... even the oldies on the juke box entertain them... i see children hurrying to the juke box with coins as often as parents...

they have the shoop shoop song.. and little old lady from pasadina...

and a batmobile....

mmmmm..Luna park Cafe...yummy burgers, good shakes, 3 songs for a quarter on the jukebox, friendly waitpersons, great service, and I can vouch for the coconut cream pie...not too sweet...just the right amount of coconut. Irukandji, if you go in the summertime, you can walk back up the hill, and walk off those calories. Too cold in winter to walk back up - lol...

Ah! We still need to get to Luna Cafe. Embarassingly close to have not yet been there.

i think that the Luna Cafe gets it's pies for Alki pie company or Alki bakery...

call and ask. their pies are always outstanding.

Original bakery makes fantastic pies. They are by the ferry dock.

Y'all rock. We have an ice cream maker (and Full Tilt when we fail). Angling here for cherry pie, so I bet Berringer or maybe even Remlinger might be an option. Aim - too generous.

Dahlia Bakery makes some serious goods - I picked up a 'fig newton' there once and will never forget it.

I have the recipe for Dahlia Lounges Triple Coconut Cream mini-pies, so if you find a baker, I'll be glad to contribute the recipe (it was in Gourment mag)

Thriftway has a frozen pie by Berringer Farms that is really good. I was craving pie and had tried to make it myself and failed miserably but picked one of these up and cooked it and it was really good. Do you want to borrow my ice cream maker to make home made ice cream? You need to make it the day before to really have some good ice cream.

Met Market pies are pretty tasty. Yum ;)

irukandji: when's his b-day? Our oven is out til tuesday when we get a new one, but we're both very good cooks/bakers and could theoretically make you something you could take home and pop in the oven...

Morgan Thriftway had some pies I noticed today. Some looked yummy...

In a pinch, you can go to the store and get the ready-made pie crust (the refrigerated kind) and two cans o' cherry pie filling and you'll have a pie in about 45 minutes. I had a craving for cherry pie a few weeks ago and made one - it wasn't the best but it served it's purpose!!!

Marie Callendar's Restaurant at Northgate (sp?). I don't know personally so much about pies, but I use to have a friend who would buy her holiday pies there.....fwiw.

Maybe Bakery Nouveau - always delicious (though a little on the pricey side). And they may not have classic American pies.

You could call Met Market's bakery see if they have a pie? Another option is maybe calling to see if Dahlia Bakery today. If all else fails there is always frozen??

I ought have remembered this from last year, but here I am again scrambling to get pie for my kid's birthday. We are pie people, not really cake eaters. ShoeFly seems to close the first two weeks of every January.

So where's a blogette to get a fantastic cherry pie?
