The are 2 pet stores on the same street this is the feed store 2 doors down from the The Mark Restaurant. I personally have gone there and seen puppies for sale because some one called me to complain about it. Now things might have changed.

They also had kittens for sale and adopting them out for $75.00 NOT even spay or neutered. I have as have others REPEATEDLY asked them not to do this or we can offer to get the cats s/n BEFORE adoption they said NO and it is the responsibility of the new owners. Well as you know NOT every one is responsible.

I know for a fact they have sold puppies and kittens.

There are news reports everywhere telling people to NOT to adopt from pet stores that sell puppy mill or kitten mills.

if you buy a pet from a pet store..
it should be from a rescue ogranization of some sort...

if you want a pure bred pup
and are willing to pay $950..
find a reputable breeder.

yes, they will have a waiting list
but you will get exactly what you pay for.

A Place For Pets sold someone I know a $950 dollar puppy with a health guarantee from a local vet. Turned out that paperwork was completely falsified and the vet said the pet store WAS TOLD the puppy had a heart murmur...

The Burien Feed store is a hug culprit? Of what? I think I missed something.
I get my chicken feed there and don't recall seeing puppies or kittens. Chicks, yes, but not other animals. Maybe I missed them?
However, I think if a store is going to be called a "huge culprit" it would be nice to have a little more information.

Good for Jim! So many retail stores have relationships with shelters/rescue groups, it's just not necessary to "sell" - and keep reproducing - pets this way.

you won't find mutts in pet stores...

requiring licensing and regulation of all breeders and making it illegal to sell unlicensed animals would go a long way towards curbing the overpopulation problem.

Count me in.

There was an initiative some years ago to restrict pet breeding to licensed breeders only. Pet owners would have been required to neuter their pets. Unfortunately, the measure was defeated. Many breeders today are unlicensed and unmonitored, slipping under the radar as they peddle their 'wares' on Craig's List, Little Nickel, pet stores, etc.. The one and only drawback to such a restriction would be a reduced number of the best pet of all; a mutt.

this is a very easy petition to sign
and could make so much difference..

if people saw the cages those puppies and kittens in the window came from before they were cleaned up to to sell.. they wouldn't think they were so cute.

While this does not deal with "responsible" breeders this has to deal with puppy and kitten mills. Even I know there is big difference between the two. The Burien feed store is a huge culprit in this. There has been a law passed in West Hollywood that is like this. This came from the Burien blog. This has to do with puppies and kittens for sale that are NOT fixed.

Hello. I'm Jim Branson, a volunteer for the Missing Pet Partnership.
http://www.missingpetpartnership.org/index.php

I live in Burien, and I have started a petition to end the practice of
selling puppies and kittens in pet stores.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/no-pet-store-puppies

I submitted a letter to the editor, and it received many comments.
The poll shows people are in favor of the idea, 2 to 1.
http://www.b-townblog.com/2010/02/23/letter-to-the-editor-local-pet-stores-should-stop-selling-puppies/

The reason I'm contacting you is that I am wondering if you would like
to be a sponsor of the petition. This would not require any time or
money on your part. If you approve, it would just involve the name
and logo of AFF being on the banner of the petition. I know this is
not a decision you would take lightly, and that it would probably
require the approval of your board of directors. The reason I am
asking you to sign on with this is that I think it fits with your
mission.

I am on the board of MPP, and I will also approach them with having
their name and logo on the petition. Ideally, it would be nice to
have several animal welfare groups sponsoring the proposed
legislation. However, since MPP is more focused on reuniting lost
pets with their owners, it is not directly tied to our mission. So I
thought I would approach you first.

I hope you will consider it, and please feel free to call me or email
if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Jim Branson
