Just want to update this matter and chime in soundly on Hegge Chevron at 35th and Holden. Randy is indeed very honest and knowledgeable (@ 48 yrs., he's been doing it since he was 15 yrs. old!)

I drove my '91 Toyota in w/ no appt. yesterday and he swiftly diagnosed the problem (a "marginal" battery, definitively ruling out a faulty alternator, etc.) - dropped a new one in lickity-split, tested for any stray drain on the entire electrical system, and only charged me $30 labor.

I have a slightly older VW and have heard that I should only take it to a VW mechanic. The on on 35th got not so great ratings on Yelp. Anyone else have a VW mechanic? Also, my window/sunroof seals need to be replaced. Is that a regular mechanic job or do I need to go to an auto glass place?

I've used Tom's twice and will NOT go back. They may have AAA ratings posted all over the place, but the two times the repaired my Honda, I was VERY unsatisfied.
The first time I went in to repair a malfunctioning turn-signal. They told me I had to replace the whole electrical harness for $650. As it was a new car for me, I had the work done. They didn't bother to tell me that the reason I was having electrical problems was because my seals were leaking and as soon as it started raining again, the problem would return. They also didn't bother to change the seal so my $650 repair job would last. A few months after the warranty ran out I had the same problems again.
Despite that, (I'm fairly forgiving) I had them replace my timing belt a few years later. The mechanic who worked on my car had to have been 6'-7", 400+#. When I picked my car up, I was told I had a radiator leak, which surprised me as I didn't have a leak when I brought the car in. When I investigated, it was obvious that the mech had cracked the top of the radiator by leaning on it while he was working in the engine compartment. They absolutely REFUSED to even entertain the possibility that their mech had been responsible for the damage, even though the only way it could have been damaged was by someone leaning on the top of the radiator.
-
I should have reported them to AAA so their 100% rating could be rescinded, but don't be fooled.
They must do more good work than bad, but 0 for 2 doesn't encourage me to give them another try.

The mechanic at the Chevron on 35th near Holden is named Randy and we agree with JoB, he is awesome. We had a major problem with our Pontiac Transport not starting on a random basis, took it to several mechanics in West Seattle and thank goodness, Randy was the only one to finally find and fix the problem. We have used his services ever since - he is super competent and very, very knowledgeable. We would follow JoB cross country, if Randy gave the ok on our vehicle!

i use the mechanic at the chevron on 35th across for the Mars Hill Church.

I apologize to him for not being able to remember his name this morning as we have become friends as he has tended 2000 Olds Minivan with over 150,000 miles these past couple of years...
and argues with me about what i don't NEED done now.

I would head cross country in that minivan tomorrow.. in spite of it's age and miles... i have that much confidence in my mechanic.
