it might work :)

tho if the beer worked i am not sure you could get the winner to take the couch home that night..

perhaps you could earn enough from the lottery to have it delivered...

i see it now.. a movable party excuse. someone will decorate it. someone will attach wheels to make it easier to move. i'm betting someone has a plastic slipcover stuck in storage they could donate...

front lawn flamingos are easier but not nearly as symbolic.

i'm gonna miss that couch

Just talked to SDOT's Illegal Dumping department (phone # (206)684-7587) and they're sending an inspector out to confirm that there actually is a couch in my front yard followed by the dispatch of a Department of Corrections work crew to take it away in 10 days or less. Hmmm... suddenly the free couch party is sounding like a better idea. :)

Pretty lame behavior.

JoB,
Why wait till friday? Last time I checked St. Patties Day is this Wednesday!!!! You don't need to see the couch as a sign of bad luck, but fortuitous and the motivation you need to start your first annual "St. Patties Day yard free couch party!" (Disclaimer** Free is in regardsd to the couch after the party, not the cost of beer which will be a minimum of $5 per keg cup.)

A FREE sign on the parking strip is the way to go(I think this is what Kevin meant, not to literally put it in the street to cause a road hazard). I've put everything you can think of on the street for free; cinder blocks, bricks, kitchen cabinets. You'll be surprised what people out there want if it's free. Someone will take it. However...I would try to cover it with plastic in case it rains because who would want a wet couch AND I would post it on Craigslist (just the intersection, now your address) If it's not gone in a few days try hauling it to the downtown Goodwill.

"I would just put it out in the street and let the city take it away."

Another person's bad behavior does not excuse our own. In other words, causing a road hazard to avoid having to deal with it isn't cool.

I'd Craigslist it as well as putting a "FREE" sign on it. It'll disappear pretty quickly, I'd think.

You may ultimately have to pay to get rid of it BUT given that illegal dumping is a crime, be sure you report it to the police. You may wind up just filing a report over the phone instead of having officers come out, but at least it will be on the record, and if there's some chronic problem with this, your incident being on the record may eventually help solve it ...

I would just put it out in the street and let the city take it away. It's not fair for YOU to get stuck with the bill just because they picked your yard over someone else. No different than when the city comes out to pick up something left on the side of the road. In all fairness, I would honestly think that this is something that is covered by tax dollars.

I thinking that the OP does not know who dumped the settee in her/his front yard. It is one of the yucky responsibilities for owning property that sometimes you have to assume the cost for someone else's poor behavior. Sorry Urbanbuild. That was a low-class act... but you already knew that didn't you. Maybe a neighbor doing a run to the landfill station would add the couch to the back of his/her truck? Give them an extra $10 and a thank you.
There is no excuse for poor behavior... and there is a list of 100 reasons for poor behavior.
I hope it doesn't happen to you again.

Seriously? I would report them for illegal dumping on private land. I would for sure not pay to remove it myself. There are laws that say you can't just unload your garbage on other people's property.

Someone has taken the liberty to donate their old trashy sofa's to my front yard...? I'm perplexed. While I always appreciate a good deal on various household items I'm not really in the market for Mr. Potatoes throw aways. Does anyone know who I might call to have these removed?
