Or if you would like to play with kittens so they don't have to go back out to the wild you can come to my house. I have 4 right now and with kittens season here. I live in white center.

I do work with both seattle and the bellevue shelters and they have plenty of volunteers. Kent shelter is low. they have a new area for the cats, it is ok.

good luck

RainyDay1235,
Isn't the Humane Society shelter in Bellevue a no-kill shelter?

dawn211,
I suspect the Echo Glen "Canine Connections" program
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/WA23.html
may currently have the greatest need for volunteers. I don't keep track very closely, but the Seattle Animal Shelter and the Bellevue Humane Society Shelter seem to have a lot of volunteers, and the Kent (dunno about the one at Crossroads) King County Shelter volunteer training was full-up last time I checked (probably because of the news coverage in the past year). You could also volunteer for a specific breed rescue. Foster homes are the greatest need for specific breed rescues. Specific breed rescues free up space at shelters for other dogs. Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue
http://www.spdrdogs.org
is one specific breed rescue, but there are others. Please PM me if you may be interested in being a foster home for Dobermans. :)

Does it need to be in Seattle? My husband and I volunteer with HomewardPet in Woodinville (with roots in WS). We LOVE working with them.

They are the only no-kill shelter in King County - and they are a shining example for the other animal shelters that IT CAN BE DONE! :)

Dawn, it's been a while since I've volunteered, but I chose the county shelter in Kent because they had the least volunteers and I felt compelled to exercise/TLC as many animals as I could to make them more adoptable and save them from euthanasia. They have a fairly simple process for becoming a volunteer.

As for the City Shelter on 15th, they have a very extensive training - it's usually very crowded - and it seems there are many volunteers doing many different things.

Either way, I think your time will be greatly appreciated:)

I'm looking for an animal shelter to volunteer at. Does anyone have any info on which one(s) may have the greatest need right now? I'd like to get more info from the community before making a choice. Thank you.
