I have been to the Seattle Chinese Garden and I didn't think it was what I was expecting. I actually liked their little arboretum that is next to the Chinese garden better.

I second hopey's thanks! I'd been considering signing up for another CSA (I used New Roots Organics, once upon a time) and this one sounds/looks great. I also appreciate that, if necessary, you can cancel at any time (for a small fee) and not be locked into some contract. What they typically include sounds right up the alley of this fruit-loving household. I'll send them a note now. Thanks, again!

Please note their website says to give them a heads up by May 31st if you know you'll be signing up, so they can plan appropriately, but the payment won't be due until June 15th.

This week we're signing up for our second year's subscription to Tonnemaker Farm's CSA (community supported agriculture - a share in a farm's harvest). Tonnemaker is mostly orchard, so they deliver apricots, cherries, peaches, apples, pears, and more. We loved having a weekly box of fruit last year so much that I wanted to sing its praises here. The West Seattle drop location is Chaco Canyon on Tuesdays.

The deadline for signing up is June 15.
We do the half box, which is more than ample for two people - we have to work hard to finish it during the height of the season.

I have a 3 year old Papillon (that's a dog, not a butterfly, LOL) who has been well cared for by the vets and staff at The Pet Care Center. I've used Lien and they are very good, but you don't need an appointment to get into the Pet Care Center at Luna Park.

We love Maestro Motors, next to Diva's on Fauntleroy. Richard Reed is awesome, and reasonable. We have been using him for years!!!

Harrah's is the place I take my cars. Reasonable prices and expert repairs.

I used them regularly until about a year and a half ago when I took my car to another place close by whose name will not be spoken..and car was stolen...and repair shop told me to get lost, even though police said that they were responsible for it. If you know me you know who I'm talking about. I have now acquired another vehicle..bet I'll be going back to see Rick and Ronnie...

We used Harrah's for our brakes a few months back, based on recs from the forums. They were wonderful! Took the time to explain what was going on with them, showed me the old parts (even though I didn't ask), and chatted it up about life in general. Super trustworthy guys. They only take cash on your first visit though, and then check or cash 2nd visit on. No plastic. Can't say if they were cheaper than anyone else. They matched their estimate pretty closely though.

Alki Auto, right on Alki. John Frank has been in business for many years. He's a great resource for auto repair.

Ty's Auto on 16th and Cambridge is awesome! They have always been super good to me. Had breaks done there for half what Swedish auto quoted.

Masters Auto on 16th in White Center across from the Albertson's is the best! Greg is kind and helpful and has been taking care of my family's cars for 15 years.

Check out Harrah's Auto repair on California and College behind the old Blockbuster. Rick and Ron have been working on my families cars for many many years! Great prices and super friendly.

Before I went to college I was an electrician. Generally if you have complex wall materials (other than sheet rock) there is usually a premium charge for that because of the time and complexity. Remember, most electricians are not drywall or carpentry experts. In fact in trade school it was a completely seperate major.

Neither is West Seattle, but I have a rant and a rave.

The rant would be against Greenlake Electric, and yes, per WSB rules, I tried everything possible to resolve the issues with them - to no avail. The damage they did to my house was extreme, in addition to a long list of other problems.

I had Kemly install a new heating system a few years back. They were professional, fast, and absolutely immaculate. When they left there was no evidence that any work had been done. I also have an old house with 'complex' wall materials. Not cheap, but highly recommended.

I will be doing a kitchen remodel this year and am going to also get the house re-wired before or concurrently. Really small war box house with mostly knob and tube wiring. I really want to find someone who will do a clean job with no damage to my lathe and plaster walls (or who can patch them back up fabulously). Any suggestions?

Assuming you need to stay within Group Health, I think Edward Benson is the top endocrinologist there. He's one of a group of endocrinologists at the main campus on capitol hill.

I too see Dr. Murray and like him a lot. Other members of my family are in GHC and are happy with Benson.

It's avery simple job and I am thinking only a small shop will want to do it. Any help appreciated.

I'm currently on my second yard reno (different yards for each job) and used Scapes Northwest both times - (425)336-1041. Although not a West Seattle company, I find Brian and his guys to be extremely hard working and accommodating. Brian's bids are competitive to others I've had done.

This most recent reno I also had Devonshire Landscaping come out to bid (they ARE a West Seattle company) and although I really like the guys that I dealt with, Scapes Northwest's came in at a cheaper price - and I already knew the quality of work they provided. Good luck!

Can anyone recommend someone for a major re-do of my back yard? work will include: new fence, possibly taking my high deck down to ground level and building a porch or steps to get to my door, making the pond that was started over 15 years ago workable, replacing the brick on the ground around the pond with something nicer, and if possible, cutting down a tree :)

I have had a thyroid issue for years. I have been seeing Dr Murray at Polyclinic as well. He is rated as one of the top thyroid doctors on various Thyroid websites.

There's a Dr. Edward A. Benson who seems to be affiliated with Group Health. When 'Checkbook' did a survey asking physicians who they'd send a family member to, he got 17 mentions.

I don't know if he's on GH but, Dr. Robert Murray @ Polyclinic is great.
