Anyway...should you know of one (local would be better) who you’d recommend, please do so.

Thanks in advance for your help...

Personally, I would like to see more money devoted to education around issues of animal neglect and cruelty. The $2500 reward money would have gone further if spent on that, I think.

I see lots of adoption events around town, but I see relatively little information on spay/neuter, animal hoarding, irresponsible breeding, etc. And when it comes to cruelty issues, I've learned more about those from some of PETA's stunts than I have from the Humane Society, PAWS, and ASPCA combined.

National animal welfare groups should be spending more of their donor dollars on public service announcements, in-school programs, and workshops. That there are still so many people out there who don't even get the importance of spay/neuter is shameful.

JoB, I don't know what type of magnets are in speakers, but I have a fairly large supply of magnets from my Health Kinesiology practice, and I can donate some if they are of any use. I have rubber bar magnets (approx. 0.5" x 2.0") and assorted ceramic disc magnets (diameters approx. 0.25", 0.5" and 0.75". If any of them are useful, let me know and I'll see what I can spare.

Nickelsville still needs tents and tarps and duct tape and zip ties and garbage bags and sleeping bags and blankets and ...

but the latest request might surprise you

they need speakers... or to be more correct, they will take speakers whether they work or not to harvest the magnets from them.

One of the campers is making electricity generating windmills.. that's what you see peeking up in the garden as you pass .. and he needs magnets to make more.

Unfortunately for Nickelsville, this camper will be taking off for a job soon.. but in the meantime he is a windmill making machine.

i wonder if that funky little store.. Archie something that used to be in Ballard has magnets he can use.

it may be time for a road trip to Greenwood :)

miws
Thanks Mike for the praise, but the smiles and thankyous I get are my pay.

Thank heavens my kitchen is an improvement over the one you show! Now with the increase in camp residents, I have friend who holds my large pan of salad for me overnight. I keep the 2 pans to be reheated Sat AM. This friend is also taking me to Costco to buy the supplies JoB and I talked about.I start on Wednesday getting prep work done so when time to cook I can just put it together. I just don't do what I do all in one day or at the last minute.

Since I don't own a car I'm not on the go all the time like JoB. I don't know how she does it, either! I just work on one project, I have no idea how many she has. Just all around helping those who need help.

Nickelsville seems to draw a lot of good from a lot of people who do whatever they can when they can. We're soooo lucky!

Praise goes for Ellen who works full time and raising 2 4 yr. olds. She doen't have a lot of free time but likes too cook for hungry people. Plus she helps residents at times. I know there are others who do a lot and prefer not to be singled out . Thank heavens for all of us. You too, Mike. Your previous experience At Nickelsville gives you a little inside knowledge and you use it to help here.

By the way, I finally put that pantry cupboard to gether and have it full already. Now I need to clean the first one up before putting new supplies in it.Not many of my neighbors would'v attempted that little project but its the 2nd one I've done.

Nextdoor.com is a GREAT site! I'm a member of the Arbor Heights Nextdoor site. Membership is limited to folks who live in a specific neighborhood.

Think of nextdoor as a rather intimate venue to to discuss neighborhood news. Things that would probably NOT get covered on the WSB.

The site allows posting links and pictures.

Sign up and give it a try! If you don't like it, you don't have to use it. You also have the option to set up email notifications when some other neighbor posts. Nice to not have to manually check the site every day.

It is probably a little like a neighborhood block watch. In our group, we routinely get the word out about a solicitor on a specific street.

Probably one of the most compelling reasons to join is that you are able to "meet" more of your neighbors!

this community is very lucky to have WSB. It's unique to us. Not all communities have something like it. Nextdoor.com obviously helps those communities more. I just look at this as another tool in the tool belt, something specific to the community inside the community that I live in. For those who wonder what it's about, here's the basic link...

Neither the initial post nor the link provided gave any compelling information about what unique benefits would be provided by joining. Technically the initial post was a statement, not an inquiry or invitation, which I also found a little strange. Normally people who want others to join a cause or community will have something a little more descriptive to say about it. Thus the "why?" question from me.

My free time is limited, so I would need to understand why I should spend more of it on a different site if WSB is already providing similar benefits to me.
