Job cuts at Starbucks’ HQ

This isn’t strictly West Seattle but we know many people who work at Starbucks HQ in Sodo live on the peninsula, and this hasn’t gotten wide media exposure yet – apparently big job cuts announced today. An e-mail tipster says a friend is one of those who got the ax. This is the first official word we’ve seen, more to come, we’re sure. 12:21 PM UPDATE: Just hearing a radio bulletin about this now – 200 job cuts at corporate HQ, more than 300 open jobs that won’t be filled. Yet more details here.

And? Life is tough, especially when you for a “Superstar”.

I am so glad I left after Jim Donald took over. You could see th change for the worse soon after in corporate. I am glad Howard is back in the drivers seat.

Classic corporate-speak in the press release:
“Within this context, approximately 220 partners have separated from the company.”

I’m sure Mr. Schultz knows what he’s doing. Trust him everyone.

Willow, dont’ be so snarky about people losing their jobs. Compared to Boeing and WaMu layoffs, this is not even newsworthy.

The PI article said that only 73 employee’s at the Seattle office were affected, most of the cuts were nationwide.

There are 3,000 employees at the corporate office and 300 were laid off. That’s 10%. The news is only reporting 220 or something but the truth is that many were demoted. If they decide not to accept the new lower position they are forced to resign. That isn’t being reported in the news. Come on everyone do we really need a Starbucks on EVERY corner!?! Give me a freakin break. Slow down the growth – that’s what’s screwing them.

This is a complaint about Starbuck’s being closed in Roswell New Mexico ,,, I believe that Starbuck’s has a responsiblity to keep this store open and has made some major mistakes from the beginning. You should have built one nice store with adequate parking in the central area of town rather than two so-so stores. Rather than closing the north main store, you should take the reponsibility of hiring a professional manager who will take his job seriously and spend time promoting Starbuck’s in the community. This is probably ” the last in, the first out” situation , however I believe with a little dedication on your part that this store could be a very good asset to you and to our community.
You have some very good people working in this store, however, you do need a professional and / or a dedicated manager. I love Starbuck’s ! Please do me a favor and do your part to keep this store open. Thank you.
