Immigrant Rights & Family Safety Planning Workshop @ Roxhill Elementary
Apr 24 @ 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm

The Seattle Public Library is partnering with Colectiva Legal del Pueblo, Seattle Public Schools, and the ACLU of Washington, to offer immigrant rights and family safety planning workshops at two locations.

Library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. Registration is not required. Workshops will be offered in Spanish and English. Spanish text is available in the Library’s Calendar of Events.

These workshops aim to mitigate the effects of a family member—many times the head of a family—being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Participants will learn how to develop a family safety plan, gather relevant documents to fight a deportation case and support someone who is detained.

By creating plans for children in mixed-status households, parents will be able to plan for the prospect of separation by designating temporary legal guardianship. At the workshop, families are guided through filling out general power of attorney documents that give authority to a spouse or another person to make decisions in the event of a separation.

Other topics covered will include the most recent updates on executive orders, as well as past policies, memos and executive orders that have shaped legal and ICE practices.

5 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday, April 24
Roxhill Elementary School, 9430 30th Ave S.W.

For more information, call the Library at 206-252-957 0r Ask a Librarian.

(A second workshop will be offered Monday, May 8 at the South Park Branch, 6 p.m. to 7:30 pm, 8604 Eighth Ave. S., 206-615-1688)

Free Auto Leaks Workshop @ South Seattle College
Nov 18 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Every year, oil and other automotive fluids find their way to Puget Sound and other waterways, hurting wildlife and habitat. Seattle Public Utilities’ Automotive Maintenance Program wants to help you make sound choices.

Don’t Drip and Drive offers free auto leaks workshops to help you learn about your car and make sound choices for Puget Sound!

• Workshops are taught by certified automotive instructors from local, participating technical schools.
• Workshops are open to EVERYONE in the Puget Sound region.
• Workshops include a 2 hour class about basic automotive systems, maintenance and information about the impacts of leaks.
• Each class participant has the option to stay up to 2 hours later to have their vehicle inspected by the class instructor.

Register online here.

The following classes will be offered at South Seattle College (WSB sponsor) from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
