Introduction to Food Forest Workshop with Kimberly Leeper & Jackie Cramer @ Community Orchard of WS
Jun 3 @ 10:00 am – 12:30 pm

Introduction to Food Forest Workshop
Saturday, June 3, 2017
10am – 12:30pm

Dear Friends of The Orchard,

In the wonderful and educational space that is the Community Orchard of West Seattle, begin to learn about, and practice, the design process of analyzing your site for a food forest – a garden modeled on the structure of young natural woodland and utilizing multifunctional plants of which most are edible.

We will also explore some benefits of food forests (ex. less maintenance, beneficial wildlife habitat). We will wrap up with some hands-on plant guild design and planting time.

Helpful resources will be shared with you to aid you in successfully growing your own urban/suburban food forest!

Light snacks and refreshments provided. Feel free to bring some to share!

Suggested Donation: $10 – $25. Please choose an amount to pay on the sliding scale that you feel is equitable. This rate helps cover costs while offering a discount for those that need it. No one turned away who are unable to pay.

What to Bring:
Gloves
Sturdy shoes or boots
Dress for weather
Reusable water bottle
Notebook, Pencil/Pen
Your curiosity about Food Forests
Snack to share
RSVP: info@fruitinwestseattle.org

COWS is honored to host this class with Kimberly Leeper & Jackie Cramer.

Kimberly Leeper has been a Seattlite for 22 years and is an educator, permaculture designer, plant and wildlife enthusiast who specializes in Pacific NW native plants, beneficial wildlife habitat, and food forests/edible forest gardens. She has a background in teaching and learning with children and adults in a variety of settings; volunteering with community gardens and plant-related endeavors – Beacon Food Forest for past 4 years; and leading a sustainable landscaping company – Mariposa Naturescapes (2005 – 2016) and Oasis Edible Naturescapes (2016 to present).

Jackie Cramer is a permaculture designer, landscaper and educator. She has worked the land for over twenty years as farmer, planner, and community organizer. She is co founder of the Beacon Food Forest, and the permaculture education collective. She continues to learn from the land and people she serves.

Directions: Community Orchard of West Seattle is located at the North entrance of the South Seattle College parking lot. Follow the north entrance road past the Chinese garden and Nursery and arrive at the orchard before the road bends to the right.

Health Care Decision Making @ Providence Mount St. Vincent
Jun 10 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Providence Mount St. Vincent and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish to host Health Care Decision Making event

Join Providence Mount St. Vincent and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish to learn how to plan ahead for your personal health-care wishes. One of the greatest stresses for a family is having to guess what health care choices a loved one would make – if this hasn’t been discussed in advance. This workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday June 10, 2017, at Providence Mount St. Vincent, 4831 35th Ave SW, Seattle, Pigott Chapel, 3rd floor. It will include coffee and refreshments.

An interactive program will feature Jen Kulik, who will facilitate, through drama, how challenging, insightful and humorous conversations to clarify health care wishes can be between spouses, parents and siblings. Our Lady of Guadalupe Father Jack Walmesley will offer opening remarks. Participants will receive a copy of Five Wishes – a practical tool and resource to help guide families through these conversations. A $5 donation is suggested. Register by contacting Ann Martin at 206-938-6194 or Ann.Martin@providence.org.

More information about Providence Mount St. Vincent can be found at www.providence.org/themount. More information about Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish can be found at olgseattle.org.
