Summer Concerts at Hiawatha 2018
Jul 19 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

As announced by the Admiral Neighborhood Association:
July 19th
URAL THOMAS AND THE PAIN

Ural Thomas started singing beneath his mother’s knee in church at the age of 3. By high school he led the doo-wop group the Mono Rays. Ural’s voice and songwriting soon gained national attention and he found himself sharing the stage with the likes of James Brown, Otis Redding, Johnny Guitar Watson, and “Little” Stevie Wonder. He played the Apollo 44 times. He backed the Northwest’s biggest soul and garage outfits of the 1960s (The Kingsmen, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Cavaliers Unlimited) and he never for a moment stopped teaching, singing and loving soul music.

July 26th
GOOD QUIVER

Good Quiver is a relatively new band, but the bandmates have a long and winding history playing music together, featuring high-school friends Ehssan Karimi on drums and West Seattle resident Martin Celt on bass. He and vocalist Katelyn Berreth have also been playing music together since high school. Their groovy, fresh sound is rooted in soul, jazz, funk, hip hop, and “everlasting friendship”!

She will be releasing her first full-length album this summer.

GENERAL MOJO’S

General Mojo’s is a space-elevator ride of psychedelic pop, reminiscent of the past with all courses set for the distant future. Despite their light-hearted approach to stage presence and style, General Mojo’s provides a serious sound, collecting the hook-laden melodies and complex lucid solo sections evocative of Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer. General Mojo’s plays both the loose and groovy rock you remember and a buttoned-down psychedelic sound you’ve never experienced before!

Summer Concerts at Hiawatha 2018
Aug 2 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

August 2nd
MICAIAH SAWYER

Micaiah Sawyer is a prolific singer-songwriter from Olympia, playing a catchy blend of folk, blues and rock. Her relatable and wise-beyond-years lyrics quickly make an impression on the listener, connecting them with not just a piece of music, but with the artist herself. Armed with an accompaniment of energetic and talented musicians, Micaiah recently won the Sound Off 2018 competition hosted by Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture and KEXP 90.3 FM.

HPIC Corner Bar – JULY 2018 @ Highland Park Improvement Club
Aug 3 @ 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm

This month’s entertainment Roxbury Saints

Taking their name from Roxbury Street in White Center, Washington; Roxbury Saints are a band of Rat City sinners that play a unified concoction of Chicago blues, classic soul and country swamp.
The newly minted four-piece group features Damien “Diablo” Garcia (lead vocals and electric harmonica), Peter O’Neil (guitar), Matt Setter (bass, backing vocals) and Dan Cunneen (drums, backing vocals). Roxbury Saints music is steeped in artists like Howlin’ Wolf, Wilson Picket and Ray Charles, but the band broadens their sound with influences like The Sonics and Lee Hazlewood to create the singular Roxbury Saints sound.
There is no better time than now to join us for our monthly neighborhood party. We open our doors to the public on the first Friday of every month as a pop-up bar with live entertainment. Corner Bar is the only place in our neighborhood that you can walk to and meet your neighbors and friends, with kids in tow, to hang out, build relationships, listen to great live music, grab a drink, and support HPIC in the process.

As always, Corner Bar welcomes everyone! Bring your families, bring your neighbors! Food and beverages are available. We hope to spend another magical evening with you all! Admission is free.

Sub Pop 30th anniversary party at Alki Beach
Aug 11 @ 12:00 pm – Aug 12 @ 12:00 am

We are delighted to announce lineup details for SPF30 and Sub Pop’s 30th Anniversary weekend, happening Friday, August 10th and Saturday, August 11th, 2018 in beautiful Seattle, Washington.

The festivities kick-off the evening of Friday, August 10th at 5pm, with The Afghan Whigs, Mass Gothic and Yuno playing a free, all-ages outdoor concert at the Mural Amphitheatre, presented by KEXP and Seattle Center.

Later that same evening, we are presenting A Night of Comedy From the Cast of Bob’s Burgers at The Moore Theatre, featuring H. Jon Benjamin, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Larry Murphy and John Roberts. This is a ticketed event with proceeds to benefit Seattle’s YouthCare.

YouthCare works to end youth homelessness and to ensure that young people are valued for who they are and empowered to achieve their potential. Founded in 1974, YouthCare was one of the first programs to serve runaway and homeless youth on the West Coast. The goal was to help young people find safety today and build a future for tomorrow. Over the past four decades, YouthCare has defined best practices and developed programs that are a national standard for excellence. Using a youth-centered approach, they ensure that young people experiencing homelessness ages 12-24 have the hope, skills, and confidence to gain long-term stability.

Tickets for A Night of Comedy From the Cast of Bob’s Burgers will be $30 (plus fees). A special presale begins Wednesday, May 30th at 10am PT (presale code LOSER30), with tickets on sale to the general public Friday, June 1st at 10am PT. Tickets are available here. Doors are at 7pm, and the show is all-ages.

Then on Saturday, August 11th from noon-10 pm, the Southwest Seattle Historical Society welcomes Sub Pop for SPF30, our 30th anniversary festival at West Seattle’s Alki Beach. SPF30 is an entirely free event featuring Beach House, Clipping, Kyle Craft, Fastbacks, Jo Passed, Loma, LVL UP, METZ, Moaning, Mudhoney, Shabazz Palaces, Wolf Parade, and a family stage featuring Caspar Babypants, The Not-Its and The School of Rock West Seattle House Band. The festival will feature four stages along incredibly scenic Alki Ave. in the Alki Beach neighborhood of West Seattle.

Seattle’s Alki Beach boasts some of the most awesome territorial (city/water/mountain) views the city has to offer, along with the occasional whale sighting, a somewhat diminutive replica of the Statue of Liberty, and some of the best local businesses to boot. We are stoked (and not a little surprised) that the city cleared the permits.

SPF30 will also have…A record fair-type event! A host of local nonprofit organizations! Food trucks! Beer gardens! (The food and beer and wine and soda or whatever, you will have to pay for! These parts are not free!) Good times and opportunities to embarrass yourself and those who’d always hoped for better for you! Plus, bands!

And closing out the weekend is a late show celebrating the unbelievably “coincidental” 15th anniversary of Pissed Jeans held at the Crocodile in Seattle. This show is 21 +, and doors are at 8pm. Tickets are $16 and available here.

It is our hope that SPF30 and Sub Pop’s 30th Anniversary Weekend will serve as a super fun and sincere “thank you” to our local and global music community for supporting Sub Pop and our artists for the past 30 years (and the next 30!).

In addition to celebrating a dynamic, inspirational roster spanning three decades, we also wish to create a sense of uplifting togetherness where we not only listen to great music but we become better at listening to each other as well.

The Triangular Jazztet features Brian Flanagan on guitar, Orrin Sand on keyboard, Michael Grimes on bass, and Jeff Ferguson on drums. These seasoned musicians have performed a lively mix of original compositions, all-American standards, and popular favorites hundreds of times to appreciative Seattle audiences over the last seven years. Summer Concerts at Hiawatha 2018
Aug 23 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

She will be releasing her first full-length album this summer.

August 9th
GENERAL MOJO’S

General Mojo’s is a space-elevator ride of psychedelic pop, reminiscent of the past with all courses set for the distant future. Despite their light-hearted approach to stage presence and style, General Mojo’s provides a serious sound, collecting the hook-laden melodies and complex lucid solo sections evocative of Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer. General Mojo’s plays both the loose and groovy rock you remember and a buttoned-down psychedelic sound you’ve never experienced before!

August 16th
THE SERVICE PROVIDERS

Labeled a “Superband” by The Stranger, the Service Providers are as mysterious as they are deeply rooted in the northwest music scene: “Not all bands are good. These ones are.” The Service Providers is a new project of Mike Musburger, Arthur Roberts (formerly of The Posies), Dave Fox, and Brian Naubert.

August 23rd
CASPAR BABYPANTS

Summer favorite Caspar Babypants will be back to sing songs for parents and kids ages 0-6 with a catchy simple sing-along good-time folk acoustic country rock-and-roll feel that will make you smile and dance at the same time.

HPIC Corner Bar – JULY 2018 @ Highland Park Improvement Club
Dec 7 @ 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm

HPIC Corner Bar – JULY 2018 @ Highland Park Improvement Club
Nov 1 @ 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
