Forest Restoration Work Party @ Westcrest Park.
Saturdays 7/1 and 8/5 from 10am – 2pm

Join DIRT Corps in revitalizing the southwest portion of Westcrest Park. The first step to bringing back this parcel is to remove invasive species. Once we have cleared the land, we will plant at later volunteer events this year.

The beginning of this volunteer event will include a brief weed ID education class. Learn about the different types of invasives, why they are harmful, and how to get rid of them. Combine knowledge with action as we work together to clear this beautiful space of harmful species that overtakes an area. Many of you might already have this experience in your own backyard!

There will be more events to come where we gradually transform and maintain Westcrest and make it a great public space for everyone to enjoy. Let us know of any questions, hope to see you out there!
PLEASE REGISTER HERE:

PARK: South parking lot off of SW Henderson St, next to the dog park.

First, we’ll be meeting a half hour earlier on Sundays at 9:30 am at Walt Hundley field to squeeze in more play before baseball teams take the field.

Second, pass the word around, we need more women to come out on Sundays to practice for coed summer league team. It will be a fun time. Invite you female ultimate friends, wives, moms, daughters, aunts, sisters, grandmothers, nieces and cousins.

And we are also taking suggestions for the summer coed team names. Talk to Perry.

Thirdly, I’ve heard interest from folks to restart a weekday evening pickup game for the summer. Let me know via email or on the field of your interest.

Keep on swinging and hucking,

Timothy Lowry

Second, pass the word around, we need more women to come out on Sundays to practice for coed summer league team. It will be a fun time. Invite you female ultimate friends, wives, moms, daughters, aunts, sisters, grandmothers, nieces and cousins.

And we are also taking suggestions for the summer coed team names. Talk to Perry.

Thirdly, I’ve heard interest from folks to restart a weekday evening pickup game for the summer. Let me know via email or on the field of your interest.

Keep on swinging and hucking,

Shrek the Musical matinee @ West Seattle High School
Aug 13 @ 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Twelfth Night Productions (TNP) is proud to present SHREK THE MUSICAL.
“Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” and thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek.
“SHREK THE MUSICAL is sweet and busy, nice and big, and, every so often, extremely lovable,” writes Newsday.

This production will be performed at West Seattle High School Theater, August 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 7:30 and August 13, 19 and 20 at 3:00. Tickets are available online at Brown Paper Tickets, and at West Seattle High School Theater, 3000 California Ave SW, an hour before the show on performance days. Prices are $23 for adults and $20 for students & seniors. http://www.twelfthnightproductions.org/

Greenstage 2017 Outdoor Theater Festival: ‘Hamlet’ (free) @ Delridge Playfield
Aug 13 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

GreenStage summer season has several outdoor performances in West Seattle. The season opens July 14, and runs through August 19, 2017.

“Hamlet”, directed by Erin Day, will be performed:
Sunday, Aug 13 @ 4:30 pm at Delridge Playfield.

Hamlet is Shakespeare’s classic story of the “melancholy Dane,” Hamlet who seeks just the right revenge on his uncle, who murdered Hamlet’s father, married his queen, and assumed the throne.
Director Erin Day is GreenStage’s Artistic Director, who last summer played Mistress Page in our production of The Merry Wives of Windsor. Since moving from Washington, D.C., Erin found a home in GreenStage. She has also performed with Seattle Public Theater, Theatre Babylon, Seattle Fringe Festival, The Washingtonians!, and others. Erin is a member of the Midnite Mystery Players.

GreenStage, Seattle’s Shakespeare in the Park Company, will offer four plays this summer during its 29th year of performing free Shakespeare in Seattle-area parks. The calendar includes full-cast versions of Richard II, directed by Susannah Rose Woods, and of The Comedy of Errors, directed by David Gassner.

In addition, GreenStage will stage two “Backyard Bard” shows; abridged versions of plays running about an hour and using the same for actors in each for all roles. Hamlet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be directed by Erin Day.

A full schedule of performances and the cast and crew for each play are on our website. Participating companies are GreenStage, Seattle Shakespeare Company’s Wooden O, Last Leaf Productions, Theater Schmeater, The 14/48 Projects, Freehold Theatre, Jet City Improv, Young Shakespeare Workshop, and Shakespeare Northwest.

Friends Of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks 2017 Walking Tours: Hiawatha Playfield @ Hiawatha Playfield
Aug 19 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Friends Of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks 2017 Walking Tours will be offering a tour of West Seattle’s Hiawatha Playfield, August 19, 2017 beginning at 10am. The tour is free and open to all ages.

SEATTLE—The Friends of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks (FSOP) has announced its summer walking tour schedule. The tours take place on the third Saturday of each month, from May to September, beginning at 10:00 a.m. They are free and open to the public, appropriate for all ages, and last approximately two hours. Tour guides will share the history of the Olmsted Brothers park and boulevard system and of the park being toured.
This year, FSOP has chosen to tour four parks that play very different roles in the overall system. On June 17th, a tour of Jefferson Park will explore how Olmsted designed that landscape to take advantage of the sweeping views across the city and Puget Sound and how its 2012 redesign incorporated Olmsted’s intentions for the park. On July 15th, the tour will circle Green Lake Park, which was originally designed as a parkway encircling the lake. On August 19th, the tour of Hiawatha Playfield will explore Seattle’s first sports-oriented park. Finally on September 16th, a tour of Washington Park Arboretum will investigate the multi-layered influences of the Olmsted Brothers and others on the park, including the design for Lake Washington Boulevard and the original plan for the arboretum.
It is a year of tours that will illustrate the incredible richness and diversity of our historical park and boulevard system. Tour guides will share photographs, plans, and other images that show how the landscapes embody Olmsted design principals and how the parks have changed over time as the city has grown and the neighborhoods have developed.
FSOP is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving Seattle’s unique Olmsted landscape heritage and raising awareness of the Olmsted philosophy of providing open space for all people. More information about Seattle’s Olmsted parks and boulevards can be found at www.seattleolmsted.org. Email friends@seattleolmsted.org for more information about the tours or other activities.
Tour Details:
June 17 – Jefferson Park – Meet at Jefferson Community Center (south side entrance).

GreenStage 2017 summer season has several free outdoor performances in West Seattle. The season opens July 14 and runs through August 19.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, directed by Erin Day, will be performed on Sunday, Aug 13 @ 3:00 pm at Delridge Playfield.

One of the Bard’s most favored comedies, featuring a crazy night in which star-crossed lovers fight strange spells and unexpected turns before sorting things out.

Aug 19 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Twelfth Night Productions (TNP) is proud to present SHREK THE MUSICAL.

Spring is upon us. And I’ve three updates.
