We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.

ArtsWest will produce Born with Teeth as the third production in their 2023-2024 Season. Written by Liz Duffy Adams and directed by Artistic Director Mathew Wright, this two-hander features Michael Monicatti (Seattle Rep’s Teenage Dick) as Christopher Marlowe and Ricky Spaulding (Village Theatre’s Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood) as William Shakespeare. Born with Teeth performs at ArtsWest from February 1 through February 25. Tickets are available online at artswest.org or by phone at (206) 938.0963.
An aging authoritarian ruler, a violent police state and a restless, polarized people seething with paranoia: It’s a dangerous time for poets. Two of them — the great Christopher Marlowe and the up-and-comer William Shakespeare — meet in the back room of a pub to collaborate on a history play cycle, navigate the perils of art under a totalitarian regime and flirt like young men with everything to lose. One of them may well be the death of the other in this biting comedy about ambition, ego, and history.
Following ArtsWest’s mission to produce work that uses live theatre as a powerful agent of change, the company has a history of examining classic texts and classic characters through contemporary lenses. Their past productions of Death of a Salesman, Ghosts, and Saint Joan took these canonical works and made them relevant and accessible to today’s audiences. While Born with Teeth is a contemporary play, it shares the spirit of looking at history from a new perspective. “Liz Duffy Adams has written an extraordinary play, dazzling in its language and deeply human in its heart,” says director Mathew Wright. “Ricky and Michael are two of Seattle’s most exciting actors, and watching them have it out with each other as these two mytho-historical figures is nothing short of thrilling. The play is full of brilliant wordplay, intrigue, sharp humor and deeply moving questions about the need for human connection.”
ArtsWest will present Born with Teeth, Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 3 pm.

Our church will be reopening PlaySpace going forward. We have not been open since everything shut down with Covid. Essentially we are inviting Moms, Dads, caregivers to come on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm to bring their little ones, and to have a place to play and connect with others in the cold and rainy seasons. Its free to anyone and everyone. Just hoping the space can be a gift to the neighborhood. One change for now is we will be opening the sanctuary up as the play area as we are still trying to rebuild and repair things from the fire last spring.

Les Ailes will be playing a show with Seattle local bands ‘Dining Dead’ and ‘Mia Day’ on 2/2 at Skylark Cafe in West Seattle during a small west coast tour in support of their recent EP release, how to greet a praying mantis. Show info here and below:

$10‘how to greet a praying mantis’ by Les Ailes, out January 12th
This small EP was made with UK producer Julie McLarnon (Lankum, New Order) and friends at a residential analog recording studio nestled in the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, in Northern Ireland. This collection of songs emerges out of a period of ongoing shadow work. It feels like an apology and an outcry at once, baring anger, sadness, and newfound self-love.
Les Ailes is the indie music project of singer/songwriter Rylie DeGarmo, synthesizing her early jazz melodic influences with a folk honesty derived from formative years spent writing songs in the american south. After cowriting and releasing an EP with her musician father in their hometown of Seattle (The Rue, 2015), DeGarmo spent much of her twenties sojourning across the southern united states developing her own writing style characterized by textural rhythm guitar in unique tunings and a clear, distinctive voice that pulls at the heart strings, waxing nostalgic. She independently released a debut full-length record as Les Ailes (Tennessee, 2021), following up with several EPs on the way to an anticipated sophomore LP, currently underway with a newly minted live band out of Portland, OR.
