The Seattle Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hosting Ensign Symphony and Chorus February 25th at 7 pm and is inviting anyone in the community who would like to attend. Ensign Symphony is a non-profit chorus and symphony in the Pacific Northwest where singers and instrumentalists perform a broad repertoire of joyous music. The fireside performance titled Renewal through Christ will feature instrumentals, music, and the spoken word. The Seattle Stake Center is located at 14020 Ambaum Bld. SW, Burien.

We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.
The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.
Our church will be reopening PlaySpace going forward. We have not been open since everything shut down with Covid. Essentially we are inviting Moms, Dads, caregivers to come on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm to bring their little ones, and to have a place to play and connect with others in the cold and rainy seasons. Its free to anyone and everyone. Just hoping the space can be a gift to the neighborhood. One change for now is we will be opening the sanctuary up as the play area as we are still trying to rebuild and repair things from the fire last spring.

Duke’s Seafood’s West Seattle restaurant is set to re-open on Wednesday, February 28. The location has been closed for about a month for repairs due to flooding from burst pipes during January’s freezing temps.
To celebrate, Duke’s Seafood on Alki will offer One Free Bowl of Chowder to anyone who stops by during the first week of opening (Wednesday, February 28 – March 5). Again, the West Seattle location only.
After that, the restaurant plans to launch a new weekly “free special” for the entire month of March.
Owners Duke Moscrip and son John Moscrip made lemonade out of lemons by utilizing this temporary inconvenience as an opportunity to give the location a few updates. Early signs of spring are popping up everywhere, including signs from metro King County looking for input on dropping stops on the 125, 128 & 60 bus lines between Westwood Village and SW Holden, theoretically to speed up and make service more timely. Be sure to write to Metro at BusStopSW@kingcounty.gov to let them know what you think about the stops selected for closure. Comments have now been extended through March 14.
Metro will have a representative at our meeting and will be looking for Community thoughts on these proposed service reductions.
We will also be bringing you updates on the Sound Transit Delridge station planning process (and possibly new information on the south Delridge triangle area).

● We will set-up the field approximately 1 hour to the start and tear down within an hour of each game.
● We will leave the neighborhood as we found it: litter and recycling will be handled professionally.
● During the event hours, we expect between 500-1000 attendees.
● No streets will be closed and our spectators will be encouraged to take public transportation.
● Sound amplification will be limited and non-audible beyond the field. .We are working closely with the City of Seattle Parks Department to minimize the impacts of the event. Our goal is to create an enjoyable and positive experience in the neighborhood.

The West Seattle Tae Kwon Do Club is offering in-person classes at High Point Community Center in March. Adults (18 and older) can sign up to learn Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art known for its fast sparring techniques, dynamic forms, and strong kicks. Classes cost only $45/month and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00-7:30 pm and Saturdays 9:30-11:30 am.

Our team is Valencia CF (VFC) Academy Boys 2010/2011, based in Seattle directly partnered with Valencia CF, a club that competes in La Liga, the highest professional level in Spain. Each year, our Valencia CF Academy teams have the opportunity to travel to Valencia and work closely with the VCF Academy coaches for a week filled with high-intensity training, tests, friendlies, and team building. This is a unique opportunity that allows players to be trained and observed by high-level coaches. During our trip to Valencia, Spain, players also have a chance to grow their development and confidence, and the trip empowers them to be better players and people. Over the last 6 months, we have been raising money to build a need-based scholarship fund for a trip the team is taking to Spain in a few weeks.
We are hosting a Bake Sale table at the upcoming Arbor Heights Food Truck this coming Monday March 4th and would love to invite community members to support. This is our second time partnering with the food truck, the first was really successful and very fun for players – and we had loads of awesome treats for sale.
This training trip to Spain is a valuable and necessary stage in their growth as soccer players and people. We do not want any of our players to miss out, especially those faced with financial needs. It is our goal to provide full scholarships for those who need it and offset some expenses covered by families. The money we raise through this goes directly to travel needs which include:
Airfare & 9 nights in a hotel very close to our training facility (includes meals)
10 training sessions with the Valencia CF coaches & 1-2 friendly matches against local teams
Coordination and supervision by VCF staff for the entirety of the trip
Valencia CF training kits

F3, a free national men’s workout group:
We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.
The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.
Our church will be reopening PlaySpace going forward. We have not been open since everything shut down with Covid. Essentially we are inviting Moms, Dads, caregivers to come on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm to bring their little ones, and to have a place to play and connect with others in the cold and rainy seasons. Its free to anyone and everyone. Just hoping the space can be a gift to the neighborhood. One change for now is we will be opening the sanctuary up as the play area as we are still trying to rebuild and repair things from the fire last spring.

West Seattle Tool Library (Youngstown Cultural Arts Center)Tools, appliances, small electronics, and more! Use the tools and facilities of the shop and pick our librarians’ brains to get your damaged equipment back in the action.
Availability is first-come-first-served. This workshop is provided free of charge, though donations are appreciated!
We ask that all items brought for repair be of reasonable size. We are unable to service pressure vessels, refrigeration equipment, firearms, and high-voltage electrical components.
Our meetings will be moving to the First Wednesday of the month begining in March 2024.
We are a grass-roots, volunteer based organization of King County residents living in the 34th Legislative District. Southwest Precinct Crime Prevention Council meeting:
Community members can come to the Southwest Precinct to hear from and talk with local police. The meeting is set for Wednesday, March 6, at 6 pm, organized by the precinct’s interim crime-prevention coordinator Mark Solomon, who has booked a guest, too: Amy Smith, interim chief of the Community Assisted Response and Engagement (CARE) department.

Our church will be reopening PlaySpace going forward. We have not been open since everything shut down with Covid. Essentially we are inviting Moms, Dads, caregivers to come on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm to bring their little ones, and to have a place to play and connect with others in the cold and rainy seasons. Its free to anyone and everyone. Just hoping the space can be a gift to the neighborhood. One change for now is we will be opening the sanctuary up as the play area as we are still trying to rebuild and repair things from the fire last spring.

West Seattle Tool Library provides free, community access to a wide variety of tools, training, and sustainable resources. Utilizing a diverse collection of over 1,500 tools, our membership has successfully grown entire community orchards, built mini-greenhouses, and even just mowed their own lawns. From basic tasks to brilliant innovations, the projects accomplished by the West Seattle Tool Library’s 780+ members have made all the tools in the collection proud to be working again.

Thursday, March 7th, there will be a meeting for the ‘Seattle Community Emergency Hub’, located at Peace Lutheran Church, on 39th Ave. SW and SW Thistle St.
The Emergency Hub located at Peace Lutheran Church is meant to provide community run support efforts in the area of Cloverdale up to Othello, and 35th to California in the event of infrastructure related disturbances such as a major snow storm, extended power outages, or the big earthquake/ tsunami/ volcanic eruption/ Guadalajara type of disaster.
If you are, or you know anyone in the area that may be interested in doing some tabletop role-playing exercises that’ll cover several information gathering and resource distribution techniques to help us be better prepared for managing our local needs in a time of crisis, please feel free to join us.

Andrea and Sandy will be followed by John Taylor, director of King County’s Department of Local Services from its beginning in 2018 until last month. Local Services’ responsibilities include managing land use, issuing permits, enforcing code, and maintaining roads. The county’s news release about John’s transition to the Natural Resources and Parks department describes him as a “proven leader to reinforce King County’s reputation as a trusted environmental steward and manage one of the largest metropolitan natural resource agencies in the country.” We look forward to hearing what John sees in the future for our community and its interactions with these two important connections to our local government.
