Community Prevention & Wellness Initiative Coalition Meeting @ High Point Neighborhood House

From Anastasia Tschida, who works for Communities in Schools of Seattle at Denny International Middle School:

King County has received funding to establish a new community coalition centered around Chief Sealth High School and Denny Middle School to prevent youth substance abuse.

This coalition will bring together people representing different community sectors to gather data and assess community needs and resources. The coalition will create a strategic plan that outlines their vision for how this funding should be used in a way that aligns with the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) model, but is specific and targeted to their community. Once the plan is accepted, the coalition will determine the appropriate prevention strategies for their community and ensure that these strategies are effectively implemented.

I would like to cordially invite you all to attend and participate in South West Seattle’s first Community Prevention & Wellness Initiative Coalition Meeting!

Free: YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program begins @ Fauntleroy YMCA
Jun 6 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles by eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and losing a modest amount of weight in order to reduce their chances of developing the disease. Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58% and 71% in adults over age 60.

We have an upcoming group starting at the Fauntleroy YMCA (WSB sponsor) on June 6th, meeting from 6:30-7:30 pm. The group will meet 25 times over the course of 1 year. Membership is not required to the YMCA, but participants will receive 3 months of free membership by participating in the program.

Alzheimer’s Association Men’s Caregiver Support Group @ Our Saviour's Lutheran Church

Alzheimer’s Association men’s caregiver support groups provide a place for male caregivers to learn and gain support from other male caregivers who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.

A free support group for unpaid male care partners of individuals with memory loss is held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:00–2:30 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Burien, Washington.

Alzheimer’s Association men’s caregiver support groups provide a place for male caregivers to learn and gain support from other male caregivers who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.

A free support group for unpaid male care partners of individuals with memory loss is held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:00–2:30 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Burien, Washington.

Alzheimer’s Association men’s caregiver support groups provide a place for male caregivers to learn and gain support from other male caregivers who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.

A free support group for unpaid male care partners of individuals with memory loss is held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:00–2:30 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Burien, Washington.

Alzheimer’s Association men’s caregiver support groups provide a place for male caregivers to learn and gain support from other male caregivers who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.

A free support group for unpaid male care partners of individuals with memory loss is held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:00–2:30 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Burien, Washington.

Tai Chi and Qigong for 50+

Join Sifu Viola Brumbaugh at the West Seattle Senior Center Thursdays at 2 pm. Tai Chi practice helps improve balance, flexibility, and strength and has been found to help reduce stress, improve cardiovascular and pulmonary health, improve the lives of diabetes and parkinson’s patients. In this class we practice longevity exercises to lubricate the joints, silk reeling and the Yang Style 24 form to build coordination and strength while improving focus and relaxation.

Alzheimer’s Association Men’s Caregiver Support Group @ Our Saviour's Lutheran Church

Alzheimer’s Association men’s caregiver support groups provide a place for male caregivers to learn and gain support from other male caregivers who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with memory loss. Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.

A free support group for unpaid male care partners of individuals with memory loss is held the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:00–2:30 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Burien, Washington.
