Community Prevention & Wellness Initiative Coalition Meeting @ High Point Neighborhood House
May 25 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

From Anastasia Tschida, who works for Communities in Schools of Seattle at Denny International Middle School:

King County has received funding to establish a new community coalition centered around Chief Sealth High School and Denny Middle School to prevent youth substance abuse.

This coalition will bring together people representing different community sectors to gather data and assess community needs and resources. The coalition will create a strategic plan that outlines their vision for how this funding should be used in a way that aligns with the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI) model, but is specific and targeted to their community. Once the plan is accepted, the coalition will determine the appropriate prevention strategies for their community and ensure that these strategies are effectively implemented.

I would like to cordially invite you all to attend and participate in South West Seattle’s first Community Prevention & Wellness Initiative Coalition Meeting!

When: Wednesday May 25th
Time: 7-8:30 pm
Where: High Point Neighborhood House (6400 Sylvan Way SW)

If you have any questions, please contact Laura Quinn at laura.quinn@kingcounty.gov or (206) 263-8938.

Community Conversation about Cannabis @ Senior Center of West Seattle
May 26 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Seniors are the fastest growing demographic of cannabis consumers and they often have a lot of questions about what is legal and what is safe. NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) Women of Washington is offering Cannabis Education for Seniors here at the Senior Center of West Seattle on Thursday, May 26th at 2 pm.

NORML is the Nation’s oldest marijuana consumer’s lobby. NORML Women of Washington is a chapter comprised of women who are dedicated to education and outreach on marijuana in the State of Washington. Members of this group will be facilitating a conversation about cannabis.

Topics to be discussed include the basics of marijuana history, laws, industrial uses; non-intoxicating health, nutritional, and beauty aids; and information on products such as tinctures, edibles, concentrates, vaping, and pain-relief patches and creams. The NORML Women representatives will also talk about myths regarding marijuana and can brief the latest research on medical marijuana and addiction. Bring your questions–There will be ample time allotted for questions and for sharing wisdom across generations!

So if you’d like to learn more about cannabis, please join us for this free event! Also, there will be lemonade and brownies…No, not those kind of brownies! Hope to see you there!
