Two large ensembles will close West Seattle Community Orchestras’ 2016/17 season, as the Intermediate Orchestra and the Wind Symphony present the year’s finale concert.

Musicians of the Intermediate Orchestra will open the program, presenting music by four American composers. The audience will be pleased to recognize Sousa’s familiar Washington Post March as well as three Gershwin love songs in a suite titled It’s All About Love: “Love Walked In,” “The Man I Love,” and “Love is Sweeping the Country.” Less well known but no less intriguing are An American Elegy by Frank Ticheli and the powerful Warrior Legacy by Soon-Hee Newbold.

On the second half of the program, WSCO’s Wind Symphony takes the audience on a thrilling journey with Mother Earth by Maslanka and Symphony for Band composed by Persichetti, both of which require a great blend of harmony and high tone production. Other band classics, including “Mars” and “Jupiter” from The Planets, by Gustav Holst, will round out the program.

Please join us for “America and Far, Far Away.” Admission is FREE, though donations are greatly appreciated as they support the provision of no-cost music programs for our student musicians as well as the gift of these performances to our community.
