My Favorite Things

In the second of WSCO’s spring concert series, the Wind Symphony and the Percussion Ensemble team up to present what promises to be a fun evening.

If you haven’t heard the Percussion Ensemble, you’re in for a treat! Put the notion of a loud marching drumline out of your head! This ensemble features the usual percussion (snares, bass drums, cymbals), of course, but a battery of mallet instruments as well. Liz Harris Scruggs promises an entertaining selection of pieces.

Next up, Anton Coleman leads the Wind Symphony in a fun program, featuring “Selections from The Sound of Music” and a plaintive version of Shenandoah by Frank Ticheli. Oh, and if you were around in the 1980s, I’ll bet you’ll recognize Ponchielli’s “Galop” as the melody of the Hughes Airwest “Yes” commercial. Even if you weren’t around then, you’ll enjoy the lively melody!

The concert is FREE! Donations are gratefully appreciated. The funds help enable student musicians’ participation in these and our other ensembles and classes at no charge.

More info at WSCOrchestras.org.

Please join us Friday, March 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chief Sealth High School Performing Arts Auditorium, 2600 SW Thistle Street. Reception to follow.

We look forward to seeing you!
