This is an off-site Seattle Art Museum event that takes place at Youngstown Cultural Art Center in West Seattle.

How do norms of gender, sexuality, and family take shape within school communities, classroom learning, and youth cultures? How are recent cultural and policy debates influencing the health and well-being of LGBTQ students? Reteaching gender and sexuality is a framework for self-reflection and action that considers how gender and sexuality norms intersect with other vectors of social power (such as racism, xenophobia, ableism, etc.) and result in inequities. Participants will discuss their current practices, share resources, and sharpen their skills in addressing these inequities with children, K-12. The workshop will highlight the significant role of the arts and cultural organizing in LGBTQ social change strategies and liberation movements.
