At the Southwest Library, Learn best practices for forming and maintaining a productive writing group, and then network with writers to get one started.

Writers’ groups have a dual reputation: some writers love and depend on them. Some claim they’re the ninth ring in Dante’s “Inferno.” For those who’ve never been part of a group, it can feel daunting to even try to find one to join.

In reality, writer’s groups can serve as great communities for writers, offering support, learning opportunities and feedback to those who work so solitarily, and who wonder if what they’re working on is any good, or even matters.

Come learn about the different approaches and basics of writing groups, and meet other writers in the community who are interested in creating productive and successful writers’ groups.

Jennie Shortridge is the bestselling author of five novels, including “Love Water Memory” and “When She Flew,” and is an avid writing teacher. She has been a member of several writers’ groups over the past 20 years, and has much to share about what makes a group work, and what doesn’t. Learn more about her on her website.
