Seattle, WA 98106
Have you ever wanted to learn more about the seemingly abandoned neighborhood beneath the West Seattle Bridge and along West Marginal Way?
It’s called Riverside, and it will be the focus of a walking tour at 10 am to noon Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015.
Led by first-generation resident Frank Zuvela, the tour, running about two hours, will start at 10 am Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, leaving from the corner of West Marginal Way Southwest and Southwest Marginal Place, beneath the high-level West Seattle Bridge.
Cost of the tour is $5, payable at the beginning of the tour. Please bring comfortable shoes to walk up hills and along streets and trails.
Zuvela’s family arrived at the mouth of the Duwamish River in 1904, and like the majority of Riverside’s fishing families, his forebears came from Croatia.
Riverside Plaza features multi-colored commemorative tiles for families and home sites that are arranged to repeat the patterns of the neighborhood. From the plaza, the tour will cover 18th, 17th and 16th Avenues Southwest as well as the low-level Spokane Street swing bridge.
