Seattle is home to a growing movement, Momentia, which empowers people with memory loss to stay active and connected in their communities.

• This involves dementia-friendly programs like walking groups, art-making classes, choirs, book groups, accessible volunteer opportunities, social gatherings and more, that take place in public settings like libraries, museums, parks, theaters and cafes. You can find examples at www.momentiaseattle.org.

• Some of the most innovative programs were suggested by, or designed by, people living with memory loss and their loved ones (including the Out & About walking group, Fridays at the Garden, Taproot Theater’s improv workshops, Cherry Street Food Bank volunteer program, etc).

• This Fall, we’re building Momentia in West Seattle by inviting West Seattle residents with memory loss and their loved ones to come together and design a dementia-friendly program for their neighborhood. Participants will share what they love to do, consider the places they love in West Seattle, and help design a brand new program for themselves and others with memory loss.

• Partners involved include Senior Center of West Seattle, Providence Mt St Vincent, Seattle Parks and Recreation, UW Medicine Memory & Brain Wellness Center, and members of the Momentia Seattle Stewardship Team.
