I know there is a very organized campaign to stop the project with a list of angry complaints and concerns. I want to tell you that there are MANY MANY of us in West Seattle who do NOT AGREE with the ANTI-CAMPAIGN.

I have lived on 35th Ave SW for 20 years and have seen the quality of life deteriorate due to high speed traffic, reckless driving and accidents, with dangerous left turns and pedestrian crossing. I live across from Camp Long, and just last Saturday, my friends and I took a huge risk in trying to cross 4 lanes of fast traffic to get to our neighborhood park. Each weekend with all of the Camp Long events happening, we see 35th Ave SW filled with parked cars, then watch as families run for their lives to cross 4 lanes of distracted traffic.

I have had many conversations with my neighbors about this street, and all the dangers surrounding it. Turning left is a serious undertaking, as you watch your rear view mirror to see if everyone behind is actually going to stop. We have had a neighbor killed with one unfortunate step, and many bicyclists’ memorials sprout up along the street. I wish I had counted how many accidents happen in our area, with one recently in which the car’s engine ended up in our neighbor’s parking strip.

Street changes to Fauntleroy and Delridge were met with the same skepticism and frustration, and yet, both streets are much more manageable to drive on. People get over their initial misgivings.

35th Ave SW has to change! Keeping it the same is not an option.
