This week’s alerts, so far:

ADMIRAL WAY BRIDGE TESTING: Starting today – as announced last week – SDOT will be testing the Admiral Way Bridge, and that means various closures, mostly lane closures.

TRAFFIC ALERT UPDATE: NB Highway 99 / Alaskan Way Viaduct reopens after Torchlight Run

5:48 PM: Just a reminder if you missed our earlier alerts – northbound Highway 99, including the Alaskan Way Viaduct, is closed right now for the Seafair Torchlight Run. And if you’re looking for an alternate route to/through downtown, remember there are other road closures (primarily 4th Avenue) for the Torchlight Parade, which follows the run. The run course has a must-clear time of 7:30 pm so 99 should start reopening no later than then – we’ll update here when it does.

7:49 PM: The Viaduct is now open again, including the West Seattle Bridge exit to NB 99.

Thanks to Mike Russell for the photo and first word of this work that will cause some closures on the Admiral Way Bridge next week. After Mike reported spotting the sign, we asked SDOT for the details. Mostly lane closures, but next Wednesday will include closing the entire bridge to vehicle traffic for a few minutes at a time. Here’s the notice:

 |   West Seattle news | West Seattle traffic alerts

6:30 PM: Thanks for the texted photo and tip. The texter says the storage box in the SB lane of 16th SW came off a truck and efforts to get it back onto the truck have yet to succeed.

6:40 PM: We just arrived in the area (16th/Holden, east of the 7-11). The police car in the texted photo is gone; the box is still there, in the left turn lane, with a flyer on the back identifying it as a ZippyShell unit. Its owner, standing nearby, told us a flatbed is on the way to pick it up and should arrive within half an hour. A broken strap caused the fall, he said.

7:18 PM: Our original texter says the box has been removed and the intersection’s clear.

UPDATE: Gas-leak response in 4800 block Beach Drive SW

(Added – texted photo; thank you!)

2:24 PM: If you have to travel on Beach Drive SW south of Jacobsen, consider waiting a bit. There’s a Seattle Fire response blocking the road for a natural-gas leak in the 4800 block (here’s a map of the vicinity where it was reported). According to SFD communication monitored via scanner, a line was not punctured; it’s a “small leak” and they’re working to shut off the gas while awaiting Puget Sound Energy.
