6:49 AM: Good morning! A lot to start with:
AVALON PROJECT BEGINS: SDOT‘s big project is scheduled to get going this week. Our final preview, published Friday, has details on the sequencing and what to watch for.
SCHOOLS REOPEN: Districts that were on spring break last week (in our area, Seattle, Highline, and Vashon Island) are back in session today.
STADIUM ZONE: Mariners are home again tonight, 7:10 pm vs. Cleveland, which means extended West Seattle Water Taxi service.
2:52 PM: Thanks for the tip: Avoid 35th SW and SW Morgan for a while – a crash involving at least 4 vehicles has blocked part of 35th just south of Morgan. We’ve just checked out the scene – no serious injuries so no SFD callout.
2:58 PM: The cause is under investigation; police are directing traffic through the scene, and tow trucks are reported to be on the way. Added photos from the scene, which is somewhat spread out.

6:46 AM: Good morning! On this last weekday of spring break for many local students, we start with reminders:
TUNNEL CLOSURE TONIGHT: 11 pm tonight to 8 am Saturday morning, the SB Highway 99 tunnel will be closed.
STADIUM ZONE: Mariners are back home starting tonight, 7:10 pm vs. the Astros.
NEXT WEEK: SDOT‘s Avalon/35th/Alaska project starts next week, with work proceeding zone by zone over the next year-plus, starting in the Avalon/Yancy vicinity. We went to SDOT HQ downtown on Thursday for an in-depth preview and we’ll publish that story today.

11:52 AM: Thanks for the tips. If you’re headed off-peninsula, don’t take the eastbound bridge for a while – two lanes are blocked near the Delridge onramp because of a crash. Big backup.
12:32 PM: The crash scene has cleared. We’re checking with SFD on injuries.

7:48 AM: An SFD dispatch is headed for a crash reported at 51st SW/SW Admiral Way.
8:02 AM: That call just closed.

6:58 AM: No traffic incidents or transit alerts in our area so far.
REMINDER: Tomorrow is the last day of school before a week of spring break begins for Seattle Public Schools, as well as Highline Public Schools to the south and Vashon to our west.
8:40 AM: If you’re headed toward the bridge via Fauntleroy, SFD is on the scene of a car fire in the 4100 block.
8:51 AM: Fauntleroy looks OK via the SDOT cameras and it’s only a one-engine callout. The eastbound bridge, however, is not looking so great, thanks in part to a residual backup from an earlier incident near the Delridge onramp. Cleared but that of course is no instant fix.
Commenters reported this during our morning-traffic coverage – and now we’ve just received e-mail that it’s happening still/again: The signal at 35th SW and SW Henderson is flashing red. Judy says that’s backing things up, as we’re into the evening commute. We’re checking to see if it’s on SDOT’s radar.

Following up with King County, since it’s their project, they confirmed the closure of a quarter-mile of 4th SW south of Roxbury is scheduled to start next Monday (April 1st) and provided this flyer (PDF) with details:

9:05 AM: As the SDOT camera shows,t this is actually right at the peak of the high rise. Traffic is being routed into the outside lane. No word on the rider’s condition.
9:29 AM: SDOT has turned the camera back the other way but reports all lanes are clear. We’ll check with SFD re: the rider.
ADDED: He is in his early 60s per SFD and was in stable condition when taken to the hospital.
