I hope quantserve is profitable for WSB

  1. But I will have to block it. From it's actions I don't think is it as benign as its sales force says. It is also showing up in spyware removal programs as a tracking cookie.

I might just drop it on the floor via the edge router but others might want to Google:

    QUANTSERVE REMOVAL TUTORIAL

And read the wikipedia entry (which you cannot find via google since a search turns up all the pages with the hidden javascript and web bug 1 pixel image).

If it had loaded without hanging half the time I might not have ever investigated what it was doing.

I can live with google analytics.

Thanks Ken! The page loads a thousand time faster after blocking all that garbage.

Yeah - I've had WSB hang quite a bit because of it, too.

  4. Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. First I've heard there was a problem.

However, assuming by Quantserve you mean Quantcast, it is the only PUBLICLY viewable stat tracking service and while we quote Google Analytics, which isn't publicly viewable, because it is the most accurate service (Quantcast undercounts), when the world looks for comparisons, Quantcast is their only option. Even giant companies use it.

If by "profitable" you mean you think they pay us to use it, sorry, no stats software pays anybody to use it. They don't pay us, we don't pay them. But without stats, we can't sell advertising, which is our sole source of income (and also pays for the freelance reporters, photographers and technical help, as a stairstep to actual employees joining P & me).

The WPtouch 1.6 version of WSB is Quantserve-free AND loads super fast. (But then you need an iphone /itouch to read all the news!) :D

  7. Patrick has a BlackBerry and I have an iPhone. (So now WHEREVER we are, either one of us can check 911 when we hear a siren in the distance, among other benefits ..)

My fingers don't work with the BB!

Glad there are multiple modes. BTW we are still working on figuring out how to keep the cool iPhone/iTouch reformatting while also serving the BlackBerry and other mobiles' market ...
