Road relief on the way near South Seattle Community College

Just picked up this tidbit at City Hall downtown after Pigeon Point residents’ train-noise meeting with Councilmember Tom Rasmussen and reps from SDOT and the Port of Seattle — the report on that is coming up in a bit, but first, on an unrelated note, chatted for a moment afterward with SDOT’s Charlie Bookman, who said that relief is getting close for two miserable blocks of 16th SW around South Seattle Community College (near SW Brandon) – he says the street in that area literally has to be reconstructed, and the work should start within two months.

This has been in the works for a while. The Delridge Neighborhoods Distridct Coucnil and some of its member neighborhood councils have been lobbying for this road work for over three years. We have put in for every bit of funding that we could think of to get tthis done. It is great to see hard work rewarded with results like this.

Thanks, I didn’t think it was surprise news but since timelines on these projects change so often, I’m always up for posting the latest update. I went for a drive over the section in question on my way back from downtown tonight – man, that IS bad. Checking to see if my dusk-ish photo came out, to add to this.

this is great news (we live near here) – now if they could do something about the people that speed down this street…

It’s about time… we drive that way frequently to take our child to and from school at Sanislo Elementary. (We could walk if there were more sidewalks and the traffic wasn’t so dangerous).

Many of the roads in this area of West Seattle are riddled with potholes. Whenever my husband and I drive along this stretch, or along SW Orchard Street on the east side of Delridge we always joke that if the Mayor lived in this area instead of the Admiral District, there would be no potholes.

More kudos to the folks who worked to get this messed up, hard-working section some love.

Ugh, I had to move away from this neighborhood to find better pavement. We dealt with these awful roads for 6 years while living at 18th and Myrtle.

As for the speeding, you can always put in speed bumps like 18th and 21st. Yeah, I am saying that with sarcasm. Sometimes the solution is worse than the problem.

Sorry, comment time is over.
