Community Safety Partnership report #3: Potential new names

We mentioned last week that one of the agenda items at the monthly meeting of the West Seattle Community Safety Partnership (previous report here) was an update on the proposal to rename the group. Some have wondered if its current name is a clear-enough reflection of the group’s mission; once upon a time, it was the West Seattle Anti-Crime Council. We thought we’d share the potential new names here to see what you think:

West Seattle Crime Prevention Council
West Seattle Action Committee
West Seattle Action Council
West Seattle Action Against Crime
West Seattle Coalition of Active Neighbors
West Seattle Crime and Safety Council
West Seattle Inter-Neighborhood Council
West Seattle Safety Partnership
West Seattle Neighbors Against Crime
West Seattle Active Neighbors
West Seattle Crime and Justice Watch
West Seattle Neighborhood Watch

Other ideas are still being accepted, and the idea of not renaming it at all also remains under consideration. Next discussion is scheduled for the WSCSP’s next meeting — June 17th, Southwest Precinct, 7 pm.

I’d suggest “West Seattle [Neighborhood] Crime Prevention” without “Council” at the end.

I like “West Seattle Neighbors Against Crime”. Says it all.

    IMO –
“West Seattle Crime and Justice Watch”
is a good title if the group would actually monitor cases through the trial and sentencing phases of crimes.
Maybe some spotlight on the way so much hard police and community work done to apprehend criminals is ‘thrown away’ because of bureaucratic process might help bring some actual justice, not the virtual kind.
Of course, we’ve got some problems with that positioning when we won’t allow a new jail down by the recycling plant.
Oh well, I guess ‘catch and release’ will have to do.
Works for fish, why not criminals?

As tempting as many suggestions on Bob’s list are, perhaps I should ask if there is a place to look online where the group has stated their mission.

    Is there a link?

West Seattle Community Safety Partnership (WSCSP) is a group of West Seattle residents and business owners who work with police officers, city employees, civic organizations, schools and social services providers to make West Seattle neighborhoods safer and more livable. WSCSP was originally called the West Seattle Anti-Crime Council. It began in 1989 as a committee of the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and is open to all.
