West Seattle Crime Watch: Husky hero

We’d been working to confirm this one after a tip; police hadn’t been able to confirm the identities for us, but apparently it made tv news tonight: Husky Deli owner Jack Miller chased after a robber who stole a local real-estate agent’s purse in the lot behind his business a couple nights ago. The agent reportedly broke three fingers trying to stop the thief; her purse was recovered but the thief hasn’t been nabbed yet.

Q13 has the story. I saw Jack (owner of Husky) and the owner of Mashikos. They both ran after the robber and Jack even followed him in his Husky delivery car. Unfortunately the guy got away.

Kudos to both business owners for trying to catch the guy.

I hereby cast my vote for Jack and the owner of Mashiko for the next West Seattle community awards! way to go guys! It’s scary thinking this happened in broad daylight in a parking lot I use frequently. it’s nice to know we’ve got some local superheroes watching our backs- and our purses. :)

Wait wait wait, it was Chris, not Hajime, that chased after the guy. Credit where credit’s due.

Jack….way to save the day! Didn’t know the van could corner like that. Bad to the bone! Hometown, born and bred West Seattle kids are like that! Yeehaw!

  • Shell Marr May 8, 2008 (8:51 am)

Get’em!! :) Wish there was video of Jack in the van!! :)

Yeah, once I saw the clip this morning myself, I realized that wasn’t Hajime, and wondered how he figured in.

I haven’t been to Mashiko in ages, is Chris an employee there?

Chris was a classmate of mine and it’s great to see that he’s still such a standup guy.

Kuddos to both Jack, Chris AND the guy who chased the robber (through his yard )and recovered the purse for the lady. So nice to know there are people out there that will help others in need.

I was alerted to this by my mom, who heard it on the news and called to make sure it wasn’t ME who got nabbed! I am not at all surprised to hear about Jack “doing the right thing” – what a standup guy. Way to go, guys. (Any news on the victim? Best wishes to you, whoever you are…)

One of our sources is an agent who works with her … she’ll be ok; we’ll see if we can find out an update.

    my god people
one of you could have been killed.
lady, let go of your purse!
everyone else, as long as the lady is ok…leave it up to the authorities.

That parking lot and back alleyway is a perfect crime scene waiting to happen. Luckily it wasn’t a worse type of crime. No sufficient lighting or security makes it easeir for criminals to do their dity deeds. I know many of cars over the years have been broken into over there. A little more lighting would help to deter most petty crimes, but if its totally dark, park at your own risk. West Seattle isn’t a small quite nieghborhood anymore.

Yes, I witnessed the “getaway car” and the husky van FLYING down Alaska….so scary how fast they were both going. I am so grateful there were no pedestrians at the time! I am not sure it was the wisest decision to participate in a car chase through these residential streets.

    How horrible!!

  • Denise May 8, 2008 (11:22 pm)

It happened in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon… no amount of lighting will deter a creep in the middle of the day. Thank goodness our local heroes did the job… way to go all three of the brave men!

Q-13 had an interview with the victim this morning. Check it out at: http://q13.trb.com/news/kcpq-050807-westattackvictim,0,1787933.story

We had a call out to her yesterday afternoon but didn’t get a call back, sigh, my former coworkers got to her first … What matters most is that she’s OK. I’m staying in touch with the police on this one too and may have an update later (since the thief was still on the loose at last report).

I hope they catch this rat b@stard. I have met Megan and her kids thru a friend. Good for her for putting up a fight!! Maybe this little sh*t will realize West Seattlites are not to be messed with!
