Look for coverage from all four TV stations and the P-I – that’s who came to the arson-gutted Puget Sound Key and Lock site in Morgan Junction this morning for an interview availability with owner Michael Dein, updating what’s been happening with him and his business since last month’s still-unsolved firebombing, and looking ahead to Saturday night’s Admiral Pub fundraiser/raffle, organized by WSB Forum Community members. The Forum Community also organized this morning’s interview opportunity and was represented on-site by JoB and Kathy, seen in the second photo above, talking with the KOMO 4 News crew. Full WSB story, with video, to come in a separate post. 1:29 PM UPDATE: Here’s a link to the first TV story to appear online, the noon coverage from KING5’s Roberta Romero. 5:37 PM UPDATE: Here’s the P-I story.

It aired four minutes in – that’s pretty good for a followup!

We invited the KOMO reporter to the event and he said that he’d be sure to be there (not as a reporter but as a West Seattle citizen – he lives a couple of blocks from the lock and key shop). The KOMO interview will be on 5 or 6 tonight.

This is a good time to be in West Seattle – a lot of things are coming together here. Good community. Good businesses. Good media (Herald, WSBlog and tons of neighborhood newsletters). Good people. And, the damned finest views of the area IN the area with more winds, rain AND sunshine than most other areas. Who hasn’t been mesmerized by the sun sinking just beyond the last Olympic mountain with all that red and gold glinting off the Sound. Who hasn’t had coffee early on a stormy Winter morning down at Alki? (you can also get a coffee at Original Bakery and do the same kind of early morning walk at Lincoln Park beach).

I wish other neighborhoods had as strong a sense of community and I wish all us Seattleites and Puget Sounders did, too. We’re all working on it, though – one neighborhood at a time. Which is why it’s good to be a West Seattleite right now, ’cause we’re getting it together. The Junction’s got new, more eco-friendly, garbage and recycle collections going. We’ve got lots of new parks being worked. Our music and art scene are beginning to really unfold. Yeah, baby.

Thanks, Chas. I’m going to save that first paragraph for whenever I’m having a bad day. The views do it for me too. I used to drive my son to Alki Elementary every morning and coming down off Genessee Hill, I’d see that amazing vista and say “do you know how lucky we are?” — yup.

Sorry, comment time is over.
