West Seattle Crime Watch: Family attacked, 2 men arrested

This happened just before 5 pm Friday but the report just appeared on SPDBlotter late tonight: A man, his adult daughter, and her nine-year-old son were parking their van at their home in the 8400 block of 20th SW (map) when 2 men jumped out from behind a nearby dumpster and tried to carjack them. The man fought back; one of the would-be carjackers pulled out what police describe as “a large knife with a 10-inch blade” and tried to stab him – but the other would-be carjacker “convinced suspect #1 to flee the scene” and the two ran off. Police found them a few blocks away, in the 8600 block of Delridge, and caught them after “a brief pursuit.” The two were arrested and booked into King County Jail, facing possible charges of robbery, attempted kidnapping and investigation of assault. SPD says one suspect is 21, the other 19; read the SPDBlotter account of the incident here. 3:51 AM UPDATE: A little more information – the two suspects are still in jail, with bail set at $75,000 for the 21-year-old and $50,000 for the 19-year-old, each of whom spent time behind bars twice earlier this year, according to the jail register.

This should send them to prison for a while. I’d say after the scare they gave the victims, these two should be locked up with the worse of the worse. It’s very fortunate they didn’t attempt this at my West Seattle home, because most likely one would be dead and the other paralyzed from a shot in the back as he fled.

I want the names of these individuals and where they resided.

    Nice work SPD!
That incident is scary-close to where I live.

Oh how scary. I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been for that child.

I agree with Rob. It’s time for all WS residents to consider carry permits and taking back the streets!

Are these guys on drugs? I work downtown and I watch many people give money to the street people, I understand how hard it is to walk by people hard on their luck. And then I was assaulted by someone high on something, and now when I witness people supporting addicts (and this includes family & friends with young adult children) I wonder when someone is going commit a crime because they are high or because they need money to get high.

I hope someday we have a logical process to solve this problem.

Carry your concealed weapon and have a permit.

    YIKES!

this is what a concealed weapon with a permit is for.

A man, his adult daughter, and her nine-year-old son VS two bad guys with a 10-inch knife.

    Bang, Bang. no repeat offenders.

So many people on this blog with the solution to just shoot and kill someone. If this were truly the solution there would be corpses all over the streets of West Seattle.
Had this man, the victim, shot and killed one or both of the attackers he would surely face jail time, as would you for shooting someone in the back. I just read a man was sent to jail for shooting a possible car prowler.

Sorry, comment time is over.
