West Seattle scene: Sailboat sideways, on the rocks

Photo and info from David Hutchinson:

Noticed this sailboat aground just south of the Don Armeni boat ramp yesterday afternoon. I think it broke loose from where it was moored during the recent stormy weather. It was still there this morning. The owner was on site trying to free it from the rocks so it could be refloated at high tide (3:32 PM). I believe he was originally contacted by the Coast Guard and he could probably use some assistance if anyone has any expertise in this type of situation.

4:51 PM UPDATE: David sends word (with new photos) that the boat is off the rocks. Posting a separate followup shortly.

Looks like it will require a crane on a barge, I don’t think it is possible to float this boat at high tide the way it is positioned. Sorry this happened, I hope the boat isn’t too damaged.

That boat has broken loose a few times. The guy leaves it/abandons it on the pilings right south of the boat ramp. A neighbor said the Coast Guard has been around but said they couldn’t find him because the boat is not registered. Doesn’t seem like the owner has been making good decisions with it. Hope he’s able to get it out of there and find a good spot to keep it. Could be a nice boat.

This boat had been in front of our house last week on Alki ave. What’s the deal we wonder who the person is living on the boat? He moved it over to that side on Monday after being asked to move it. Was a eye sore or beach sore… Not pretty….Now it’s on the rocks whoops!

Not sure I’d want to float that again without proper repairs. The damage by the rocks could have caused some serious issues.

They’ll get all the rescue equipment onsite then a seal pup will take a nap 10 feet away. :-)

That’s my home you guys are laughing at on the rocks. Now I have to find that Tent City gang and shack with those rich folks for awhile.

We saw the Coast Guard come up and look at it yesterday while it was still afloat, then leave it. It was obvious that the boat was loose and that when the tide went out, the boat would be in trouble, but they decided to leave it. The Coast Guard just let this happen.

Correction Markus: The Coast Guard didn’t let this happen; the owner did. That’s who is responsible. The boat never should have been left there in the first place.

I saw that boat at least a week ago snagged on the old pillions. My wife thought someone moored it there but I was sure it was adrift

It’s off the rocks now – just got a followup from David with photos. Posting separately shortly.
