Wheeling & dealing

Flyers on the window at Bikes & Brew, west of Easy Street in The Junction, are advertising its liquidation sale, saying that B & B is going out of business. SUNDAY UPDATE: Bikes & Brew replied to the e-mail we sent seeking further details; here’s what they wrote:

We will be open for the next several Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm selling everything in the shop.  Lots of people showed up yesterday so it looks like the last Saturday that we are open will probably be in early May.  Please tell your readership that we thank them for their support over the past few years.

    Seems like they just opened.

That’s too bad. I really liked that place back when it had a kids area.

They did good work on my bike last summer. Unorthodox business model, tho’.

It does seem that when they first opened and had the kids’ play area in the upper back area that there were quite a few families and youngsters in the place throughout the day. The bike business seemed to take off and so the bike area was moved from the front to the former kids’ area. Probably a trade-off, but one which apparently didn’t work out.

I did wonder how long they would make it given that there is coffee and food right next door at Easy Street, across the street at Cupcake Royale and, more recently, at Nouveau Bakery.

It’s still sad, though, as they (the owners) are really great folks who were trying to serve their community. I dropped by there several times a week but, alas, not enough others did.

They ought to knock down that old Hamm building and rebuild a new one. My bedroom is bigger than Eddie’s shoes. Corner Pocket and Easy Street music are the only ones making any money and keeping that old stink hag building alive.

Sorry, comment time is over.
