West Seattle beverage buzz: Prost update; ex-Sleepless

That’s the new sign up outside the future home of Prost West Seattle, on California SW just south of The Bohemian and Spiro’s (here’s a map). Not only is the sign up, so is the Prost West Seattle website, with the promise that Prost is “opening really really soon”; this page elaborates that Prost expects to open in December, with hours 3 pm-2 am 7 days a week (same thing proprietor Chris Navarra told us in the interview for this story we published two months ago).

One more West Seattle beverage note: The Harbor Ave drive-thru coffee shack where we got the photo at left almost exactly a year ago (we’re showing Christmas lights again this year, by the way; send us addresses!) has a new look and a new name. We noticed repainting under way last week – from the former red, to a latte-like beige with tan trim – but didn’t think anything of it till we saw one of their coffee cards over the weekend and noticed the name has changed, from Sleepless Coffee to West Bay Espresso.

I would love Prost even more if the sign wouldn’t say ‘Bitburger’… but I’m sure there will be Bavarian beer on tap as well, right?!? ;)

wait, isn’t bit a Bavarian pils. I know I am not hat up on German beers, but I was pretty sure that Bitburger was in that style.

    are off-leash dogs allowed?

Bitburger is not Bavarian and I’m glad to see Prost featuring it. I’m kind of sick that every German pub is so heavy on Bavarian offerings of any kind.

Oooooo, I’m going to love this place. It’s within walking distance home if I have a few too many.

I’d like to request Paulaner on tap. Can’t go wrong with over 300 years of perfection by monks brewing beer.

    Mmmmm… beer! Real beer!!!

Bitburger is one of the finest Pilsners around (with the exception of a few Czech Pils). I’m pretty excited to see this great pub coming here.

I’ve been waiting, waiting, waiting for this. A local source of good German sausage, sauerkraut and landjaeger – just like my grandfather the butcher used to make – is a wonderful thing.

  • marco November 24, 2008 (3:54 pm)

Yeah, for those who like Pils ;)

@d: Husky and Metropolitan Market already carry Bavarian Meat’s sausages – but it will be nice to have them ready-made from Prost!

  • big gulps,eh? well, see ya later. November 24, 2008 (4:47 pm)

Their other places are so nice. This is a great addition to the hood. I love the way they use the appropriate glassware for each beer. I had a ham hock from the one in S lake union last week and almost died from pure joy.

I was initially really excited to see it within walking distance to my house- but now I am nervous about its 2AM close time. Seems a little late for our quite little neighborhood, eh?

  • alkidude November 30, 2008 (12:29 pm)

the original prost as well as die bier stube are both located in neighborhood settings and have the same 2am close time. when seattle decides to grow up into a true big city, people will start to realize that 2am is actually a very early time to legally mandate that a bar must close. most big cities allow bars to close as late as 4am, which makes sense because many people realistically do not start going out until 10:30pm. check out http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=148036

by the way according, to the prost west seattle website, the bar will be opening this coming tuesday.

Thanks for posting that – someone left a similar note on another post two nights ago but when I checked the website at the time (it was the middle of the night so I couldn’t call), it hadn’t changed from the “very soon” – will post atop the main page – TR

  • TrevD December 2, 2008 (6:17 pm)

Supposed to be open today. Gonna go check it out.

  • WSB December 2, 2008 (6:25 pm)

Yes, we’d since reported that in other posts. We went by at 3 pm, their stated opening time, and they weren’t quite ready yet, but by now they should be – let us know how it goes!

Sorry, comment time is over.
