West Seattle WordsWest Literary Series is a monthly invitation to hear world-class writers from near and far and to join and nurture the West Seattle literary community.

What is the simple link between savoring good food and living a good life? How does what happens in the kitchen, what is served at the table, make a key difference to the interactions between friends and family both in our homes and in our local restaurants?

For the November 19, 2014 edition of WordsWest Literary Series, pie poet extraordinaire Kate Lebo and New York Times Bestselling author Molly Wizenberg will read their work and explore with the audience connections between handcrafted food, creative kitchens and the written word.

In honor of Thanksgiving, a holiday focused on thanks as well as great food, all proceeds from sales of the evening’s donated pie (Kate) and chocolate-chip cookies with gray salt (Molly) will go to West Seattle Food Bank.

Kate Lebo’s poems and prose have appeared in New England Review, Best New Poets, the Rumpus, Gastronomica, Willow Springs, and Poetry Northwest, and she’s the author of two books about the folk art of pie-making, A Commonplace Book of Pie and Pie School: Lessons in Fruit, Flour, and Butter. For more, visit katelebo.com.

Molly Wizenberg is a Seattle-based writer, photographer, and co-owner of two restaurants, Delancey and Essex. She is the voice behind the award-winning
blog Orangette and the author of two New York Times bestsellers, A Homemade Life: Stories and Recipes from My Kitchen Table, and Delancey: A Man, A Woman, A Restaurant, A Marriage. When she’s not busy with that stuff, she’s hanging out with her husband Brandon, daughter June, and two dogs named Jack and Alice.

Every third Wednesday, 7 pm, at C & P Coffee Company, WordsWest hosts literary events that range from readings by published local and national authors, to craft discussions and guided writing explorations for every experience level. Folks from local, independent businesses share a favorite poem as part of the Favorite Poem Project. On November 19, Delridge Grocery Co-op, will join us.

WordsWest is curated by West Seattle writers Katy E. Ellis, Susan Rich, and Harold Taw. For more information, please contact: wordswestliterary@gmail.com.
