Favorite Poem by Alison Kennedy of M3 Bodyworks

at C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor)

What is the secret sauce of marriage that keeps the engine running after twenty-five “blistered” years? How does raising children translate into “the greatest poem of all”? Come listen to the comical, the poignant, and the absurd tales of two local writers who aren¹t afraid to take a deep breath and tell it as they see it.

For the February 18th, 2015 edition of WordsWest Literary Series award-winning creative non-fiction writer Jennifer D. Munro and West Seattle poet Sarah Steinke will read from their work which takes a humorous and rhythmic look at the body in all its weird and wild manifestations. This month WordsWest is very grateful for a grant from Poets & Writers that allows us to pay our authors for their time and talent.

Jennifer D Munro was a Top Ten Finalist in the Erma Bombeck Global Humor Competition. She is a freelance editor whose writing has appeared in numerous publications, including Salon; Defenestration: A Literary Magazine Dedicated to Humor; The Bigger the Better the Tighter the Sweater: 21 Funny Women on Beauty and Body Image; and Best American Erotica. She is the author of The Erotica Writer¹s Husband, humorous stories about sex and the sexes. Jennifer blogs about unconventional motherhood and a quarter-decade marriage to an unconventional man at www.StraightNoChaserMom.com.

Sarah Steinke is currently developing a monthly workshop that uses both body and written movement to access what later turns into memoir, essay, and poetry. Sarah also teaches yoga in West Seattle. In both practices breath and rhythm coil around the essential–mind, body, spirit–and release what’s no longer needed. Sarah’s work has appeared in the Laurel Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Crab Creek Review, the Other Journal, the Southern California Review, and elsewhere. Her chapbook, Words Could Not Make It More True, is just out from Finishing Line Press.

Every third Wednesday, 7 pm, at C & P Coffee Company, WordsWest hosts literary events that range from readings by published local and national authors, to craft discussions and guided writing explorations for every experience level. Folks from local, independent businesses share a favorite poem as part of the Favorite Poem Project.

WordsWest is curated by West Seattle writers Katy E. Ellis, Susan Rich, and Harold Taw. For more information, please contact: wordswestliterary@gmail.com.
