We’re bringing the art to you! Join us this Saturday at the Bethaday Community Learning Center in White Center for a “Pop Up” art gallery Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Local artists will showcase and sell their work at affordable prices as well as talk with the community about their inspirations. We’ll have activities for you, a photo booth, snacks, and music. It’s definitely a family event, so feel free to bring the kids.

Meet The Artists:

Michael B. Maine – I use photography, video, and audio to empower people to find, develop, and share their stories. Everybody has a story, and I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to know that story, play an active role in it, and share both the process and product with the world. I feel most alive when working with people to bring out and share their authentic selves and stories.I feel personal evolution in each photograph we (”we” meaning the subject and I) make, interview we conduct, or stroll we take as I find some piece of inspiration from them.

My pieces are indicative of the curious nature with which I approach my projects. I typically begin with an issue, but use inquisition to allow the real stories emerge. Rather than me telling their story, I provide a platform for a person to tell their own. With this process, I hope to create pieces that are authentic, unique, and beautiful.

Nancy Leith of Emerald Heart Flying creates vibrant inspirational fabric mandalas (Sanskrit meaning “circle”) using vintage and new fabrics, buttons, beads, ribbons, trims and other found objects collected on her travels over the years. Each mandala is made with an intention, i.e., healing, creativity, abundance or passion, or perhaps the memory of a place and a feeling associated with it. The colors, textures and focal point chosen have their own unique vibrations that resonate with the viewer in their own unique way.

Note cards made from photos of the mandalas are also available. To see more of her work and learn more about mandalas visit her web site at www.emeraldheartflying.com. Nancy can also custom design a mandala for you. Contact her at nancy@emeraldheartflying.com.

Vera Johnson – My photos are quite simply what I see when I look around and what appeals to me. I have always been drawn to the old, naturally weathered and imperfect. I allow that I cannot always capture what I want to present, nor how I see it, however I try.

I’m self taught. I take photos for my own pleasure. I am grateful to be able to offer them to you, for viewing, or for purchase. Enjoy.
